Animation Takes Centre StageWith blockbusters such as Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc, Toy Story and now The Incredibles, the art of animation _ and the animators themselves _ are in the spotlight. Not only is the public flocking to cinemas to see animated movies, they're also interested in learning something about the animator's craft.
One person who was on hand to enlighten the Bangkok public recently was Warren Trezevant, a core member of Pixar Animation Studios' award-winning animation team _ which created these blockbusters. As a guest speaker at the Raffles Design Institute on Silom Road he gave some insights into how The Incredibles was made and also presented some behind-the-scenes footage.
The latest Pixar success was four years in the making, starting from creating the story to designing characters, animating them, set dressing, colour scripts, art progression, sound effects, simulations and lighting.
The animation team, comprising 16 animators who did both hand and computer animation, did everything in sequence, with snapshots created by the entire story team. The process of creating the art and animation alone took some two years.
Trezevant told the audience that once director Brad Bird's story had been approved, they set up the team and conceived how the entire film would progress. They then created a storyboard using pencil, paint
