Toy Story 3 in Development Sans PixarThe Walt Disney Co. is hoping the "Toy Story" franchise will be three times lucky despite losing its producing partner Pixar Animation.
The studio has finally settled on a plot for the third installment of "Toy Story" and is beginning the development process, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
A pitch by Jared Stern, who is currently in Disney's feature animation story development program, has been accepted and is being kept under wraps. Who will actually write the script is still to be determined.
Although Disney teamed up with Pixar to create the first two films, their partnership will dissolve after 2005's "Cars" is released. To continue the CGI-animated box-office magic, the studio is setting up its own digital animation facility in Glendale, Calif., to produce "Toy Story 3."
The original 1995 film introduces Woody, a little boy's favorite toy -- until the new astronaut doll Buzz Lightyear enters the picture. The second installment centers on Woody's abduction by a toy collector who wants to put the doll on display in a museum. Both projects grossed approximately $437.5 million at the domestic box office.
