Hornet Stands Up Against PovertyHornet directors Peter Sluszka, Abdo/Patterson and Aaron Stewart recently completed a series of short films for the United Nations' Stand Up Against Poverty campaign.
Every day, 8,200 people succumb to HIV/AIDS; 24,000 people die of starvation; over 100 million children can't go to school; and more than a billion people have only polluted water to drink.
These are just some of the harrowing facts spurring STAND UP, an ambitious world record attempt initiated by the United Nations Millenium Campaign via Young & Rubicam.
Hornet, Inc., among a few other NY-based companies, donated their talents to help promote the event and inspire action.
The event is scheduled for October 15 and 16, 2006.
Simply put, STAND UP hopes to set a Guinness World Record for the largest number of people to stand up against poverty.
The event's greater ambition is to raise awareness of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), a 2000 commitment by some 189 nations across the globe to eradicate poverty by the year 2015.
STAND UP is meant to remind slow-moving governments that their deadline is fast-approaching, and their promises must be kept.
