The awards will be announced at a Mask and Mas Ball on 18 October as part of the conference and the winners' work will be transformed into 5ft x 3ft banners which will decorate the On Route venue, the Camden Centre, during the conference. The artwork will also be exhibited in The Swiss Cottage Central Library. The On Route Carnival Conference is the first international carnival conference in Europe. Earlier this month, the Arts Council published its National Carnival Arts Strategy which set out how the Arts Council will support the cultural, artistic and professional development of carnival arts in the near future. The strategy aims to provide the carnival arts sector with the same awareness of and access to funding as other artforms and to act as an advocacy tool for the increased recognition of carnival as an artform.
