Men's apparel brands have recently taken some of the spotlight from the women's wear lines that have traditionally dominated Tokyo Fashion Week.
Whereabouts, a fashion house owned by Hidetaka Fukuzono, 29, is one of the men making their mark by showing at the Tokyo Collection.
Fukuzono initially gained public attention when he became the first Japanese student at the Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Belgium.
Although he originally intended finding work in Europe straight out of school, a street fashion magazine sent to him by a friend in Japan changed his mind.
"I found so much energy in the fashion styles of Tokyo's boys and girls in the magazine. They were very free and varied.
I felt like I found an appeal with Japan that I had not been able to see before I went to Europe.
Then I had second thoughts about the place where I should make clothing and turned to Tokyo, " Fukuzono says.
Whereabouts opened its first store, in Tokyo's trendy Shibuya, on Sept. 19, almost years after the foundation of the label.
It wouldn't have been so easy (to open a shop) in Europe," Fukuzono says.
He explains that it is relatively easy for new designers to become prominent in Tokyo because there are so many young people living here who have a high regard for "newness."

The awards for the 42nd Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival as well as the 1st. International Eurasia Film Festival were created by URART of Istanbul, designer of handcrafted jewellery and silver objects.
The source of inspiration for the awards statuette is the rich natural and monumental beauties of Antalya as well as the rich cultural history of Anatolia.
Nine mythological muses (same in number as the different category of awards), each representing a separate branch of art (the originals dating 2nd Century B.C. are in the collection of the Istanbul Archaeological Museum) surround a column which is found in ancient buildings all around Antalya.
In the film frame on the lower part of the column, images from the natural beauties and the historical monuments of Antalya can be seen.
The statuette is crowned with a golden sphere representing the Golden Orange.
The gold, silver, and bronze statuettes were presented to the winners during the Closing Ceremony at the Aspendos Antique Theatre on October 1, 2005.
In addition the co-winners of the Best Actress Award were presented by Mr. Erol Sagmanli, Chairman of URART a Golden Orange brooch of 18ct gold, diamonds and orange sapphires.

 Dress up for Mozart!
Mozart is Rococo. The superstar of the 18th century embodies the eroticism of the Triumph Fashion Award 2006: he loves to be in love, playfully, and open for all the beautiful seductions.
The lust for life of the enchanting Mozart operas and the playful interaction with clothes inspire the designers.
The theme of the Triumph Fashion Award 2006 is the new interpretation of the Rococo-Feeling by innovative fashion for the 21st century: Dress up for Mozart!
When you think of Mozart all the delicious colours of sweets made of strawberry, pistachio, vanilla lead us into lovely affairs which playfully test the lover's fidelity.
And this test isn't easy: seductive "mouches", beautiful plasters in different forms - stars, hearts, moons, flowers - are the messengers of love at Mozart's time.
Inviting satin bows and coloured stockings with promising sayings increase the amorousness. The universe for erotic fantasies wasn't more stylish at any other time!
And the master of this universe was a woman: Rose Bertin, the first fashion-designer. Since 1772 Rose Bertin was the court supplier for Marie Antoinette, who has been the fashion icon of the European world.
Marie Antoinette is known for her extravagance. She paid large sums to Rose Bertin for the creations which consisted in the artistic
