Brazil Born Rafael Gomes is the Winner of the Triumph Fashion Award 2005

Rafael Gomes' South American joie de vivre, sensuality and refreshing new style have convinced 11,000 fashionistas and 19 fashion experts from Europe, USA, Asia and New Zealand.

700 sketches of designers from 40 countries were submitted to this year's Triumph International Fashion Award on the theme "Dress up the Pin-up for a glamorous party".

The Triumph International Fashion Award 2005 is equipped with prizes and international presentations in the value of about 100,000 Euros again this year.

Rafael Gomes' breathtaking evening dresses represent the glamorous wedding of seductive lingerie with Haute Couture.

The skirt part consists of interwoven stockings or bra straps. Rafael Gomes places the corsages and bras of Triumph International in the centre of his creations.

Rafael Gomes: "I was born during the carnival in Rio de Janeiro.

I already discovered my passion for fashion as a child when I sewed clothes for my play mobile figures.

For 10 years I have lived in Munich.

I am attending the German Master School for Fashion which I will end in summer 2006."

Try to Walk in Her Shoes

Try to Walk in Her Shoes

Most people agree that, some designers are way apart from others, with their way of thinking, creativity and their products through out the international design arena. One of these designers is Marloes ten Bhömer.

Few months ago, I met this young Dutch designer and asked her for this interview, glad that she accepted sincerely.

I talked to her before her new exhibition which will be held during 18th - 23rd October 2005.

Marloes ten Bhömer, is a 26 years old product designer who is focussing on bags, products and her shoe label HUNT.

She has spent her undergraduate years at the Higher School of Arts Arnhem, 3D Design Course (BA - 1998 - 2001) alongside experimental shoe designer Fredie Stevens, as well as Viktor & Rolf.

In 1999 she was awarded "Honourable mention" for a schoolbag which she designed for the HEMA-design competition.

She studied at the Royal College of Art in London, Design Products Course during 2001 - 2003 and received a MA degree under the tutelage of renowned architect Ron Arad.

In 2002, she went to London College of Fashion, for Footwear and Computer Summer school. An internship at Tod's in Milan was Arad's recommendation for her, before collaborating on shoe projects for Alexander McQueen and Boudicca.

FCUK Logo Falls Out of Fashion in Revamp

FCUK Logo Falls Out of Fashion in Revamp

FRENCH Connection is to ditch its iconic FCUK slogan, it emerged yesterday as the troubled fashion house reported further financial problems.

The retailer, which has seen a 69 per cent fall in first-half profits, said it was moving away from the logo-heavy style of the controversial, but highly successful, branding campaign, which was launched in the mid-1990s.

Analysts said the company had suffered because it did not react quickly enough to changing fashions and pointed to concerns about its premium prices.

Stores have been forced to delay the introduction of winter stock because of left-over summer items, and the retailer admitted it was trying hard to persuade customers it had changed its image.

A spokeswoman said: "There's been a huge amount of focus on the logo products and that's something we are moving away from.

It's still part of our brand, our acronym, but it's not as dominant.

It was one of the things that brought the brand to highlight a few years ago, but we're redressing that balance."

The spokeswoman said the firm was still trying to convince customers of its new style, but would not go into details of how it was implementing this.

Platinum Design Winners Announced

Platinum Design Winners Announced

The identities of the eight winners of the Design Innovation Award have been unveiled by the Platinum Collection magazine.

Launched by the magazine, the scheme seeks to reward and uncover emerging designers who can drive forward the jewellery market, through innovative design ideas and approaches.

This year's awards – the scheme's third year in existence – were supported and sponsored by Lonmin, the world's third largest platinum producer.

Design entries submitted included an expandable platinum brooch and a ring engineered to look like satellites orbiting in space.

One of the eight winners, Janet Weller, commented: "As a freelance designer, it is an amazing confidence booster to have a winning entry, and to be able to exhibit the finished piece at such a high profile event as the International Jewellery London."

Her winning design, along with fellow winners, Claire Woolley, Jacks Turner, Jig Pattni, Jo Bromley, Naomi Newton, Shona Marsh and Tamara Gomez, will now be featured as part of a dedicated double page spread in the eighth edition of the Platinum Collection magazine.
