The Fashion Calendar Flips to Spring

The Fashion Calendar Flips to Spring

Will women’s wardrobes take another 180-degree turn?

As fashion followers tuck away their floaty bright-blue peasant skirts and put on their luxe black suits, designers will begin previewing their spring 2006 collections at New York Fashion Week.

"God only knows what we'll see," said Cindi Leive, editor in chief of Glamour magazine. "I already have whiplash from all the colorful, hippy, boho looks from summer to the black, black, black and more black for fall. I hope now that I've bought my black, it’s here for a while."

She added: "I hope that designers find a way to make that look new and fresh instead of just breaking out the florals."

Leive will be among the editors, retailers and stylists attending the eight-day event, which runs Friday to Sept. 16.

It will include presentations by Kenneth Cole, Tommy Hilfiger, Oscar de la Renta, Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan and Marc Jacobs

Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation EDFF Announces 2006 Competition

Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation (EDFF) Announces 2006 Competition

The search is on for the next best and brightest fashion stars as the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation (EDFF) launches its fifth annual competition, where six promising fashion designers could win the extraordinary opportunity to showcase their collection at New York's fall fashion week.

The EDFF award comes with a generous grant of $25,000 to produce an unforgettable show, and has helped launch careers of some of today's hottest designers including Zac Posen, Peter Som, Proenza Schouler, Doo.Ri, and Jeffrey Chow.

"I am honored and grateful to have won the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation award. To show my work at New York Fashion Week was an opportunity I've always hoped for, and it would not have been possible without the help of EDFF," said Jasmin Shokrian, 2005 EDFF winner.

"The response to my work has been invaluable. I'm proud to be apart of a history of interesting young designers, all of whom I respect and admire," she continued.

The fifth anniversary of EDFF marks a major milestone for a program that has given more than 20 talented designers a launch pad to build successful careers in fashion.

"As an EDFF judge for the past five years, I truly believe we have raised the bar in recognizing new design talent.

Our winners have already proven themselves worthy, winning awards from the CFDA and Fashion Group

Gwen Stefanis Next Act Spring LAMB Fashions

Gwen Stefani's Next Act: Spring L.A.M.B. Fashions

When Gwen Stefani takes the stage during New York Fashion Week, she won't be belting out chart-topping songs.

Instead, she'll be showing off, well, belts, among other things.

The spring collection of L.A.M.B. features sweet floral frocks in prints of wisteria and chrysanthemums, and there'll be hard-core, edgy details like padlocks and chains, too.

L.A.M.B., which stands for Love, Angel, Music, Baby, hits the runway Sept. 16, the finale of eight days of fashion previews for spring 2006.

It's the same slot that Jennifer Lopez's Sweetface collection filled last season.

Stefani says she's not jumping on the celebrity fashion designer bandwagon for a quick ride.

What she hopes sets her apart from the crowd is her attention to detail. "L.A.M.B. is a fashion line that -- fingers crossed -- will just get more and more sophisticated.

What's different than what's out there is the way I put things together. And, if you look inside the pants, you'll find secret details in there."

Stefani says she's learning to navigate the bumps of the industry, including production delays and expensive fabrics, and that she's ready for some criticism -- the constructive kind, she hopes -- from fashion editors and retail buyers after her big show.

She's getting help from designer Zaldy and creative consultant Andrea Lieberman.
