Project 50 provides aspiring designers nationwide the unique opportunity to re-design a fashion icon-the Original 501 Jean-and allows non-designers to select and choose their favorite.
Based on the results of the public's online voting, the winning design will produced by Levi's and sold exclusively on website.
In addition to the design from the online challenge, the winning design from last night's show is currently available for sale on website.
The Original Levi's 501 jean was the creative inspiration for challenge No. 9 in the fourth season of Project Runway.
The challenge was introduced by Levi's Senior Vice President of Design Caroline Calvin and Project Runway mentor Tim Gunn on the industrial docks of Brooklyn facing Manhattan.
Calvin explained that Levi Strauss left from the Brooklyn dock in 1853 and headed to San Francisco, where in 1873 he created what has become one of the most popular and celebrated pieces of apparel in history-the blue jean.
Calvin then challenged the show's contestants to create a design as creative, innovative and youthful in spirit as the 501.
"The 501 jean is probably the greatest piece of apparel every created.
It has stood the test of time as one of the most versatile garments, and it made for a very a tough design challenge," said Tim Gunn of Project Runway.

Sustainable Fashion and Textiles: Design Journeys brings together for the first time information about lifecycle sustainability impacts of fashion and textiles, practical alternatives, design concepts and social innovation.
It challenges existing ideas about the scope and potential of sustainability issues in fashion and textiles, and sets out a more pluralistic, engaging and forward-looking picture, drawing on ideas of systems thinking, human needs, local products, slow fashion and participatory design, as well as knowledge of materials.
The book not only defines the field, it also challenges it, and uses design ideas to help shape more sustainable products and promote social change.
Arranged in two sections, the first four chapters represent key stages of the lifecycle: material cultivation / extraction, production, use and disposal.
The remaining four chapters explore design approaches for altering the scale and nature of consumption, including service design, localism, speed and user involvement.
While each of these chapters is complete in and of itself, their real value comes from what they represent together: innovative ways of thinking about textiles and garments based on sustainability values and an interconnected approach to design.

createurope: The Fashion Academy Award is a Europe-wide competition for young fashion designers and fashion design students.
On the initiative of the Goethe-Institute and in cooperation with EUNIC Berlin, the European partnership of national institutions for culture in Berlin, this year the competition createurope: The Fashion Academy Award will be held for the first time.
The objective of the contest is to create links between European fashion training schools in addition to promoting lasting, active dialogue between students and teachers, initially on the European and later on the international level.
One of the chief instruments for establishing this European network is the website, where all private and public fashion schools in Europe can present themselves.
Here, a potential young designer from Greece, for example, who would like to study fashion design in another country, can obtain an overview of the content, courses of study, conditions and costs of different European fashion schools.
As yet, fashion schools from 28 countries are supporting the competition.
Every entrant must send their submissions to the Goethe-Institute Berlin by 30 June 2008.
A European jury made up of fashion journalists and designers will select a maximum of 30 finalists from all of Europe by the end of July 2008.
The finalists will be notified that same month and invited to attend the final elimination ceremony in Berlin in mid-October 2008, to present their collections at a large fashion show.
