Riccardo Tisci Givenchy Names Young Italian to Design Womenswear

Riccardo Tisci: Givenchy Names Young Italian to Design Womenswear

Venerable French fashion house Givenchy named little-known Italian designer Riccardo Tisci to take over as chief designer of womenswear, putting an end to a difficult year-long search.

The 30-year-old Tisci will present his first collection for Givenchy in July during haute couture week.

He is a 1999 graduate of London's famed Central Saint Martins School of Art and Design, alma mater of an entire generation of top designers including Alexander McQueen, John Galliano, Stella McCartney and Phoebe Philo.

Tisci, who formerly worked for German sportswear label Puma and Italian brand Coccapani, has shown his own collections in Milan for the past two seasons.

Last week in the Italian fashion capital, he sketched a long, clean silhouette, primarily in black, with his autumn-winter 2005-06 line.

"I am delighted to join Givenchy and very proud to be able to bring my vision to this prestigious French haute couture house, whose history inspires me," Tisci said in a statement released by the label.

According to a source close to the deal who asked not to be named, Tisci won the job after he agreed to shelve his personal ambitions to concentrate "150 percent" on Givenchy, and also because of his "modern vision" for the house.

"He was the only candidate that did not refer back to Hubert de Givenchy, Audrey Hepburn,

Spreadshirt New UK Website Makes Everyone a Fashion Designer

Spreadshirt: New UK Website Makes Everyone a Fashion Designer

A new website launched last week in the UK gives Internet users with a flair for design the opportunity to start their own fashion house from their desktop.

Spreadshirt allows designers to market a range of clothing from dresses, underwear and jackets to t-shirts, sweatshirts, and caps.

Surfers who fancy themselves as the next Stella McCartney can add their own designs or catchy slogans to over 50 products.

Spreadshirt then creates an online store where the designer can set the prices for their new collection and add the new store to their own website.

That's where the work ends for the designer, as Spreadshirt handles payment, manufacture, shipping and customer service.

The Spreadshirt model has taken Europe by storm over the last three years, with over 60,000 designers and website owners creating their own clothing lines.

Websites run by companies, rock bands, clubs, football fans, schools and colleges have grabbed the opportunity to sell brand-name merchandise without taking on startup costs or distribution hassles.

T-shirts featuring iconic designs are particularly popular although the more daring have created their own saucy lines of thongs and boxer shorts.

Formed in 2002 in Germany, Spreadshirt is a privately-held company based in Leipzig with offices in Spain, Ireland and the USA.

Robert Lee Morris Necklace Featured on Britney Spears for Allure Magazine

Robert Lee Morris Necklace Featured on Britney Spears for Allure Magazine

"The necklace that Britney is wearing in the Allure photo is one of my silver archive pieces that I resurrected for Donna Karan's Spring 2005 runway show.

It was originally made in 1973, sold and I made a reproduction for this DK show after Donna saw my book and loved the look of all the archival jewelry I did from that era.

There is a very constructivist, hand wrought feeling that worked with her theme of Spring 05, with lots of detailed couture-like sewing and stitching and wrapping.

This necklace was not sold to Britney's husband, but instead is in the Donna Karan shop right now on sale for $6,500.

I called the piece the "Art Nouveau Pectoral" necklace as it is very inspired by the whiplash designs in that art movement."

Gianfranco Ferr Designs the Hostesses Outfit at Premire Vision

Gianfranco Ferré Designs the Hostesses' Outfit at Première Vision

We all know the talent of Gianfranco Ferré for dressing women elegantly in superbly cut clothing. This season, the renowned Italian designer has been invited by Première Vision to create an outfit that testifies to his talents.

For the 170 hostesses who welcome and orient visitors during the Salon, the couturier has dreamed up a very feminine silhouette, an example of the designer's matchless mastery of fabric and manufacturing.

In a flamboyant red knit crepe, Gianfranco Ferré has conceived four pieces (short jacket, knee-length skirt, trousers and T-shirt) all highly structured. As a virtuoso of construction, he teams the drape and comfort of knit to the architecture and sophistication of details and finishing.

This elegance extols a flamboyantly monochrome look, giving free rein to the liberty of contrast, for an outfit with multiple facets, from the most structured to a relaxed chic, with a choice of removable white or red collars, either silky or cottony, on the T-shirts.

These designs show once again the force of the alliance between the know-how of clothing designers and that of fabric creators. Gianfranco Ferré made skilful use of this alliance, magnifying all its qualities, both technological and aesthetic, of the textiles fabricated by the Italian weavers, who, with a tireless passion, constant
