![]() Wearable Electronics: Fashion vs. FunctionLast year, GapKids started selling something called the Hoodio: a $68 machine-washable hooded fleece jacket with an FM-radio control panel sewn onto one sleeve and removable speakers tucked inside the hood.Clothiers have been trying for years to find a sexy combination of gear and garments but have failed to find mainstream success. Three years ago, Levi Strauss & Co. ran a big advertising campaign for its Dockers Mobile Pant, khakis lined with bulge-resistant pockets for hiding portable electronics. Today, the Mobile Pant has disappeared from Dockers' lineup. Even before Dockers, Levi Strauss had joined forces with Philips Electronics to create a line called Wearable Electronics with ample pockets for portable devices. Recently, Microsoft teamed with Swatch to get greater cachet for its wireless data watch. These are chunky wristwatches that download weather information, news headlines, horoscopes and other data for $40 a year. Despite Microsoft's high hopes for the watches, do you know many people wearing them? No matter how connected to technology we get, there are some things we want to keep separate - like clothes and gear. more seattle... (348) added by Senay TOPCUOGLU |

![]() Flip Flops and Socks Help Travelers Through Airport CheckpointsCloudyreason's new product "Flip Flop Socks" are coming to the aid of the aggravated traveler, offering warm feet and the potential for a quick trip through airport checkpoints.Wearing sandals on a plane trip makes it easy to slip your shoes off if questioned at the screening area, but many people do not want to stand in their bare feet at such a public venue, not to mention having to deal with cold feet in the cooler temperatures. Flip Flop Socks and sandals cover the feet and enable travelers to wear sandals during travel. Some of the retailers are even marking their products "airport friendly" on the packaging. "Flip Flop Socks are airport friendly, when worn with a pair of rubber or leather flip flops," says Michele Baer, company owner. "Our customers have been telling us they love to wear Flip Flop Socks and their thong sandals, on the plane and on long car trips, they love to have their feet free to move and they love how easy it is to slip sandals off and on and still have warm feet," says Baer. Cloudyreason sales are up 500% this year from when they first debuted last year, they are available at retail locations around the U.S. or online. more Flip Flops and Socks Help Travelers Through Airport Checkpoints added by Senay TOPCUOGLU |

![]() Pitti Immagine Bimbo N. 60The world preview of clothing and accessories collections for children and teens (0 to 18 years), maternity wear, and childcare products for the fall-winter 2005/2006 season.Pitti Immagine Bimbo is the world's reference in fashions for the youngest set and the focus of trends and novelties for the whole industry. At the last winter edition (16 - 18 January 2004), the exhibitors showed 413 brands produced by 306 companies, a third of which came from abroad. In the three trade fair days the visitors totalled about 10,000 - and of these more than 35% came from about 70 different countries - for another of those numerical increases that have been a constant factor in the event figures since 1999. Most of the buyers come from Spain, Germany, Greece, United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, the United States, and Japan. The growth results were best above all for buyers from new markets, in particular China and Russia. Pitti Immagine Bimbo is a trade fair open to experimentation, characterized by a broad product offer and continuing research into quality and look. It is divided into 4 sections as Pitti Bimbo, Sport Generation, New View and Kids' Design. more Pitti Immagine Bimbo N. 60 added by Senay TOPCUOGLU |
![]() Correspondances - Yohji YamamotoCorrespondences is the title of the Yohji Yamamoto exhibit that will be presented in Florence on the occasion of Pitti Immagine Uomo n. 67.Correspondences between over 80 outfits that cover the creativity of one of the most charismatic designers in contemporary fashion, and the rooms, paintings and sculptures of the Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Palazzo Pitti. It will be a tightly paced dialogue between different art forms that share a certain idea of beauty. The clothes to be displayed in the museum's 30 rooms were selected on the basis of their ability to interact with the artworks. The exhibition, art directed by Yohji Yamamoto's long time collaborator Masao Nihei, is characterized by opulent simplicity. The clothes, shown on Stockman forms, blend with the Gallery's permanent collection. Standing free of showcases, the garments can be admired and touched, allowing viewers to appreciate their absolute beauty, the quality of the materials and perfect design. A dialogue is created by the placement of the garments and the artwork; hinting at hypothetical encounters; seeking eye contact with the observer. The subtle light dominating the exhibition is broken by sudden, harsh flashes. more Correspondances - Yohji Yamamoto added by Senay TOPCUOGLU |
