Label Cotton Jackets Are Full of Versatility

Cotton Jackets Are Full of Versatility

From young men to boomers, from surfbrands to high-end designers, everyone is hopping on the cotton blazer trend - starting this fall and continuing into next spring.

"I was into this look right away," says Gary, 42, a music retailer in Vermont. "I live in jeans, so this really works for me." Gary likes the way he can quickly add polish to his jeans and shirt just by throwing on a blazer - yet it doesn't have the formality of a suit jacket.

That's just the line of thinking retailers are banking on. There are a lot of young men and former dot-commers who never dove into the suit and tie pool. Now, they can get their dress up feet wet by adding a casual cotton jacket to their ubiquitous jeans or khakis. The look also has fans among those used to donning a suit and tie - it's dressed down, and is something virtually any man can understand and make his own.

Banana Republic's Michael Anderson, designer, says cotton jackets have become a bestseller for fall. "Because they are versatile [cotton jackets] can be worn both to the office with a dress pant, but also at night to a bar, club, or restaurant," he says.

Wild Fashion Untamed Animal Magnetism

Wild: Fashion Untamed: Animal Magnetism

'Wild: Fashion Untamed' is the name of the new exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute which opens to the public today.

The exhibition, which strives to present " an extensive exploration of man's ongoing obsession with animalism as expressed through clothing", does just that (and brilliantly I might add, illustrating the way in which its original usages have morphed into the contemporary vocabulary).

Included are some of the most exemplary and statement making designs from influential designers past and present, like Jean Paul Gaultier, John Galliano, Rudi Gernreich, Fendi, Yves St. Laurent, Alexander McQueen, Thierry Mugler, Azzedine Alaia, Bob Mackie, Gucci, Chanel, and the 'wild and crazy' guy himself Roberto Cavalli, a man whose body of work traditionally walks on the wild side of things, and who undoubtedly never met a leopard he didn't like.

Coincidentally, the famed and high living Italian designer was the sponsor of the exhibit (talk about a 'marriage made in heaven), with "additional support provided by" 7th avenue 'veteran' John and Laura Pomerantz.

First Peak at Lagerfelds Ads for Adidas

First Peak at Lagerfeld's Ads for Adidas

The designer that never sleeps has begun using his talents with the athletic brand that best fuses fashion and street chic.

Adidas has made available to FWD a first look at the ad campaign shot by Karl Lagerfeld for the brand's adidas Originals collection.

The campaign shot in mid-November in Karl's studio on rue de Lille in Paris marks a major new step for adidas, a key move in its drive to expand the previously tightly distributed collection to a wider public.

Up until now, adidas Originals has been distributed in selective doors only - mainly Originals stores or fashion forward boutiques located in hip downtown neighborhoods in major cities. The label now plans to open a further 15 more Originals stores, a significant expansion from the current chain of 24 flagships.

The campaign is a rare move for Lagerfeld who practically never shoots ads for labels other than those for which he is the designer. Admittedly, as Karl is the creative director of Chanel, Fendi and Lagerfeld gallery, and the man who created the recent global smash hit with H&M.

The Originals spring summer 2005 season ads, all of which are in black and white, will break globally next year in the February issues of key lifestyle and fashion publications.

Ujena Swimwear And Fashions Launches New 2005 Clubkini Collection

Ujena Swimwear And Fashions Launches New 2005 Clubkini Collection

Ujena has pushed the fashion envelope once again with their innovate approach to swimwear and clubwear marketing. "It's important to stay in the forefront of the consumer's mind," remarked Catherine Cross of Ujena. Clubkini is a state of mind that opens the doors for consumers and retailers to think "outside the box."

Clubkini offers a break-through marketing strategy which places the emphasis on a consumer's creative style rather than a cookie-cutter, designer-stamped outfit. Artbody stylists created a Maxim meets Vogue series of photo shoots, using male and female fashion and bikini models set against the sunny riverfront and rooftops of Miami and Fort Lauderdale.

Ujena's forward-thinking approach to advertising is a breath of fresh air for a competitive industry. The Clubkini promotion embraced nontraditional photography and the use of a variety of models to present their new concept. Swimwear Illustrated Magazine, published annually by Ujena boasts 60+ pages of exciting new talent shot in exotic locations by dozens of photographers.

Additional 2005 designs include fitness and gym wear plus an elegant and daring Lingerie Bikini line. With 20 years of success, Ujena has survived the volatile swimwear ebbs and flows thanks to creativity, upbeat spirit, and innovation. The launch of Clubkini challenges the conventions
