They both scream fun, flair and fabulous - so what better combination is there than flowers and fashion?
The perennially popular Ellerslie Flower Show has forged a three-year alliance with Fashion Industry NZ (FINZ), which will see the country's leading designers and florists working together at the 10th anniversary event.
Chief executive Cath Handley said many big-name New Zealand fashion designers such as Tanya Carlson, State of Grace and Paula Ryan were being teamed with leading floral designers and their resulting collaboration would be on show in this year's Floral Marquee.
"The theme for the marquee is 'Brilliance - Fashion, Flowers and Fantasy' and, given the calibre of the Kiwi fashion designers that we have attracted and the outstanding florists, I have no doubt it will be truly spectacular."
Ms Handley said exhibiting florists would create a floral interpretation of the fashion designer's creation. "The fashion expert will create an original design and the florist will interpret various elements as they see fit."
Professional florists and floral societies will take part, working with both top name designers and emerging artists. Participants include Tanya Carlson from Dunedin, Takaaki Sakaguchi from Christchurch, Annah Stretton from Morrinsville and, from Auckland, Doris de Pont, Caroline Church from St

Two budding East Anglian fashion designers have won the chance to see their designs paraded on the catwalk in the UK's style capital next week.
Anneka Long and Kerry Knowles, who study at Isle College in Wisbech, have made it through to the grand final of a nationwide design competition.
Earlier this week they found out they had made it through the south eastern heat of the Can U Cut It competition.
Their creations will be showcased at the London College of Fashion on Tuesday.
The competition tests the entrants' design and technical abilities and is organised by Skillfast-UK, which promotes skills in the clothing, footwear and textile industries.
Miss Long, 20, from King's Lynn and Miss Knowles, 19, from Peterborough, have just completed a BTEC national diploma in Fashion and Clothing course at the Wisbech college, which is renown in fashion circles.
Miss Long, a former pupil of Lynn's King Edward VII school and the College of West Anglia, has won a place on the London College of Fashion's BA fashion course.
Miss Knowles is heading to the Surrey Institute of Art and Design to carry on her studies.
The students entered outfits from their final collections into the competition.
Miss Long's collection, Deco Jazz, was inspired by the 1920s.
She said: "I have incorporated Art Deco into my designs thr

It's thumbs up for John Ray, the Scottish designer called to fill the shoes at Gucci's, after Tom Ford's dramatic departure this past spring.
"I loved it," said Kal Ruttenstein, fashion mentor from Bloomingdale's, of the sophisticated collection which cut the edge-but kept the "fetch" of Ford's trademark sexy look.
Expectation filled the air as the fashion crowd streamed into the Diana Hotel in Milan to witness the debut of the man who dared to follow in the footsteps of the golden boy of design.
The lights went out and the runway was enveloped in darkness, except for the spotlight on the male model with long, wavy hair, wearing a 1970's embroidered short white caftan over simple white pants.
He slowly walked the runway. He carried an oversize leather sack over one shoulder, and donned crocodile Gucci loafers with the backs artfully pressed down. Metallic ethnic charms hung from his neck.
The youth's relaxed self-confidence broke the spell. The show could go on, even if minus Tom Ford.
The caftan is the pivotal point of the new Gucci menswear look. By day it can be worn over a pair of jeans or bathing trunks.
At night it is long and luxurious in printed chiffon to be worn over tuxedo pants. The summer 2005 Gucci shirt comes in light transparent fabric, embroidered with life-size butterflies.
