Urart Receives Two Awards at the Seventh South Sea Pearl Jewellery Design Competition

Urart has been awarded with two silver awards at the Seventh International South Sea Pearl Jewellery Competition organised by the South Sea Pearl Consortium (SSPC) and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.

The first silver award in the Ring Category was given for Baroque a ring using 18 ct gold, white and cognac coloured diamonds, a baroque fresh water pearl and a golden South Sea pearl.

The second silver award in the Others Category was for Nature, a tiara using 18 ct gold, white and cognac coloured diamonds a white South Sea pearl.

The winning pieces will be exhibited during the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show from March 4-8, 2009.

"These awards are once again proof to the exceptional talent of our head-designer Filiz Vural and our staff." said Erol Sagmanli, Chairman of Urart.

Winners of the European Fashion Award FASH 2009

Loden jacket or leggings, airport or festival, routine or freedom? The motto of the European Fashion Award - FASH 2009 was "New Diversity".

It is an annual design competition held by the Stiftung der Deutschen Bekleidungsindustrie - SDBI (German Fashion Industry Foundation).

A jury of international, experienced experts from design, industry, marketing, media and retail selected the winners from 101 entries of nine countries according to specific criteria.

The award ceremony was held on February 1st at the international sporting goods exposition ispo winter 09 in Munich.

The 1st Prize in the category "Students" went to Marcel Lunkwitz und Julia Muller (Burg Giebichenstein - University of Art and Design Halle) for their innovative and emotion-charged men's collection "Where the clouds are like headlines".

Ilona Zaytseva (University Pforzheim), who was also among the winners in 2008, received 2nd Prize with her high-quality, autonomous collection "Hoolifans".

In the category "Graduates" 1st Prize was awarded to Marianne Musek (Berlin University of the Arts).

Pilgrimage helped her to reflect on the design of her collection for men and women, "The Quest for Happiness".

The Five Minute Interview: Henry Holland, Fashion Designer

Henry Holland, 25, is a fashion designer from Ramsbottom in Lancashire.

He shot to fame in 2007, on the back of his Frankie Goes To Hollywood-style tee shirt prints which featured slogans such as "I'll Show You Who's Boss, Kate Moss".

The House of Holland was recently awarded "Best Tartan" at "Scottish Fashion Awards" 2008/2009 and has picked up a devoted fanbase, including Alexa Chung, Nicole Richie, Gareth Pugh, Richard Nicoll, Pixie Geldof, Kelly Osbourne and supermodel Agyness Deyn.

Henry has also designed an exclusive House of Holland O2 Mobile Broadband Pay & Go stick, which will be available from 27 February at O2 stores and from the O2 online shop.

Fuller Craft Museum presents The Perfect Fit - Shoes Tell Stories, a new exhibition that explores the cultural meanings of shoes, presenting imaginative objects of every size and craft medium.

Fuller Craft is dedicated to the objects and insights that inspire viewers and artists to explore ideas through contemporary craft.

In this show, shoes express more than their role as footwear; they contain multiple meanings that speak to issues of gender, sexuality, race and class.

All objects in the exhibit were created after 2003.

Ellesse Launches International Design Competition

Ellesse Launches International Design Competition

Ellesse, the Italian sportswear brand is celebrating its 50th anniversary next year with the launch of a design competition that will see it collaborate with leading design partners on an international scale.

Born in Perugia, Italy in 1959, ellesse has been at the forefront of sportswear over the decades, its famous half tennis ball logo displayed on an innovative range of clothes worn by the world's leading tennis and sports stars.

Now, to mark its half century, ellesse is putting a call to artists to create an ambitious and thought-provoking piece of design, fittingly inspired by the sport of tennis and the brand's values of "La Dolce Vita", living the "good life."

ellesse is working with partners including The London College of Fashion and The Istituto Italia Design in Perugia to inspire entrants for the competition.

World renowned illustrator and typographer, Si Scott has collaborated on the project and will judge the winning entries alongside key ellesse and Pentland designer and directors.

The prize is $6,000 and the work will be showcased at ellesse's 50th anniversary event that will take place in 2009 in the brand's birthplace of Italy.

The categories for the competition will range from fashion and textiles, right through to fine art, sculpture, street art, graphics and digital.
