![]() Jean Paul Gaultier: Fashion MagicanThe unmistakable voice of Frank Sinatra belting out his signature tune, "My Way," kicked off the Shanghai's second Fashion Week last Saturday at Fuxing Park with a visual feast presented by French designer Jean Paul Gaultier.Models swaggered down the catwalk, not quite certain they were as "cool" as Gaultier's clothes which are not easy to wear or show. Lace covered voluminous gray wool knits, over-sized coats over tiny vests cropped above the waist, luxurious and heavy feather head-dress. Gaultier has shown that people can indulge in the forbidden and that a kilt or dress can be worn with virile style. "Each dress tells a tale, and Gaultier's the magician who waves the wand. She describes her collection as: “flirty 1920s meets risqué punk in a funky lounge bar” and says that her garments are perfect for the girl who likes to surprise with unexpected details and doesn’t scrimp on style. Having taken the best from the prohibition era and fused it with the delicious punk-influenced style of today, Aston has taken the market created by the likes of Illicit one step further, creating a range which stands out on the street, but ensures femininity: “My collection is aimed at women who like to shock you but are still responsible and hard working.” At the forefront of her collection was the pink knitted dress. Slung low on the hips and high on the thighs it was paired with three quarter fishnet tights and a petite cuff. Created with a mix of wool, cotton and cotton blend, the outfit defines the shape of the woman wearing it, while remaining flexible enough to suit most si more www.thr...
