SHOW RCA Fashion 2009

The Royal College of Art's renowned graduate Fashion Show will be taking place at the Henry Moore Gallery where final collections by 36 postgraduate students will be showcased in a catwalk presentation that includes menswear, womenswear, knitwear and millinery, alongside static displays of footwear and accessory design.

The Royal College of Art is the home of the world's only wholly postgraduate Fashion Department.

Founded in 1948 by Madge Garland, former editor of Vogue, the School of Fashion and Textiles is renowned for its links with the clothing and textiles industry, ranging from companies such as Levi's, Umbro, Missoni, Burberry and Louis Vuitton.

2009 Parsons Fashion Benefit Honored Calvin Klein's Tom Murry and Francisco Costa

Parsons The New School for Design honored Tom Murry, President & CEO of Calvin Klein, Inc., and Francisco Costa, the company's Women's Creative Director for Calvin Klein Collection at its 2009 Parsons Fashion Benefit at Cipriani Wall Street.

Each year the event celebrates visionaries who have significantly contributed to the field of fashion design, as well as presents the top student collections including Parsons Designers of the Year.

Chairman, President & CEO of Macy's Terry Lundgren presented Mr. Murry with his honorary award, while Vogue's Editor-at-Large Andre Leon Talley bestowed Mr. Costa with his award.

This year, Parsons presented New York Times Fashion Critic Cathy Horyn with the first Student Icon Award, which is given by the graduating class to a powerful voice in the fashion community that inspires and influences their work.

Additionally, Parsons Alumnus Peter Som presented a short film about Parsons.

"We are honored to celebrate the achievements of Francisco Costa and Tom Murry in fashion design and their success in branding and retail," said New School President Bob Kerrey.

"Both Tom and Francisco have shown through their actions that they know that the design industry can only remain viable when it keeps evolving.

They also recognize that nurturing and cultivating the future talent is essential to business success."

Independent Romanian label Party Noire announced the second ready-to-wear collection since the launch of the label in May 2008.

Party Noire retains the innovative and bold decision for an online presence only policy for this collection too.

"The Internet is a fantastic platform for a self-financed label, both from a creative and from a business point of view, and we are very excited at the opportunities it offers.

Getting to know our customers first hand, irrelevant of their or our location, is simply invaluable," commented Alina Cosma, designer and founder of Party Noire.

Bourgeois Punk, the new collection, was conceived with a strong focus on the 24-hour dress to suit the lifestyle of the modern woman and allow her to enjoy the busy day and her success.

Cosma quotes as the main source of inspiration her own needs: "My genuine appreciation of time, quality and comfort, longevity and individuality in design was the driving force behind the creative process for Bourgeois Punk.

I experimented with clean, even sober silhouettes, and bold yet functional details such as rolled in shoulder straps that continue for the length of the dress or dress sleeves ending in cufflinks.

These are dresses to work in and have fun in while still retaining a cool sophistication and a bit of daring that makes them very desirable."

All items are made with practical and comfortable materials, cotton and silk being favourites.

Zandra Rhodes to Design Clothes Range for Marks & Spencer

Marks & Spencer has announced a new womenswear collaboration with designer Zandra Rhodes.

Ms. Rhodes became a darling of the fashion scene in the 1960s and has been sought after since.

Working with M&S she has produced "a bold, sophisticated" range of womenswear, accessories, holiday wear and lingerie.

"Marks & Spencer do a wonderful product range and I have always wanted to design for them," Rhodes commmented.

"I am thrilled to see my prints and their beautiful clothes reach a wide range of consumers."

Highlights of the range include jump-suits in spiral and rose prints, a luminous snakeskin print cut out swimsuit, bikini and oversized tote and butterfly print scarves in red and black.

"This has been an amazing opportunity to work with such a well-known designer and a perfect fit for M&S," said Neil Hendy, Head of Womenswear Design at M&S.

"Zandra's unique prints and aesthetic work really well for our customers."

The range will be available from May 7th this year.
