Dover Street Market Trend Source

Dover Street Market: Trend Source

Theoretically, all fashion followers should be well versed in the Fall/Winter 2007 trends by now.

The shows were months ago, every fashion publication has had time to write about them, "it pieces" have been photographed for magazine editorials, even the local paper has printed some sort of feature by now.

Yes, theoretically we should all be able to converse in depth about each trend and how they relate to the zeitgeist or at least spot non-fashion elements and comment about how "on-trend" they are.

But how many of us really have more than a vague understanding of each trend?

To shed some light on the subject and perhaps enlighten us with some cutting edge knowledge we turned to one of the most "on trend" outlets possible, Dover Street Market - the self proclaimed antithesis of the slick designer superstore.

It was DSM's creative director Rei Kawakubo, designer of Comme des Garcon that wanted a place "where various creators from various fields gather together and encounter each other in an ongoing atmosphere of beautiful chaos".

It is here that trend seeds are planted. With a reputation of beating trends to the punch, DSM is the place to start our education.

Winner of the European Fashion Labs Award

Istituto Europeo di Design Madrid announced the winner of its European Fashion Labs award at Russian Fashion Week.

The Yrus Beach Cocktails

The Y'rus Beach Cocktails

The Dutch bikini label Y'rus Beach Cocktails leaves the commercial arena and continues as an independent design project.

As a first result the collection overview on the Y'rus site is updated with a number of new and special designs that have not yet reached production phase, mainly bikini slips.

Some of these are presented in the "Regular section" of the Y'rus site while also some designs are added to the "Concepts section", accessible for registered user only.

Most of the new bikini styles are unique one-off hand made samples that were developed, based on playful and exciting ideas about "the beauty of hiding".

From the existing collection a number of bikini designs will remain available for retail sale via the Y'rus web site and a number of selected shops.

The Y'rus Beach Cocktails bikini label started out in 1996 when the Dutch designer Rus presented his first collection at the IGEDO Fair in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Ever since new designs remained daring and innovating, pushing the concept of a bikini a bit more to the creative edge.

While keeping the feminine elements the styling focused on strong, sometimes even architectural elements.

The origins go back to what Rus himself once described "constructional bodypaintings".

The designs exemplify typical examples of a playful male fascination with the female body, exploring the border between admiration and longing, while looking for an answer to the question: Does beauty end when excitement starts?"
