Nike Names Sandy Bodecker Vice President of Design

Nike announced that company executive Sandy Bodecker has been named to the newly created position of Vice President of Nike Global Design.

In his new role, Bodecker will oversee all aspects of design for the Nike brand, from concept creation to retail presentation.

He will report to Nike brand President Charlie Denson.

"Sandy is uniquely qualified to lead the design of Nike products and the premium presentation of the Nike brand to consumers," Denson said.

"Sandy knows how to deliver an innovative, compelling Nike point of view that creates deep consumer connections and drives growth.

In this new role, Sandy will help ensure we're bringing a consistent and relevant Nike experience to the marketplace across our core consumer categories and retail executions."

Nike CEO Mark Parker said the creation of a global design role underscores the company's commitment to delivering a steady stream of product and brand innovations, such as Nikeplus and NikeiD that redefine retail, extend Nike's leadership and give consumers richer, premium experiences.

Nike is driving global growth through a sharper consumer focus across six core categories.

"Design innovation in our products and brand experiences is core to Nike and essential in realizing our full growth potential," Parker said.

"Sandy is absolutely the right person to lead Nike Design."

SDC Set to Deliver First Colour Competency Courses in Thailand and Hong Kong

SDC Set to Deliver First Colour Competency Courses in Thailand and Hong Kong

The global reach of SDC vocational training courses has increased yet again, with the addition of two new training locations, Thailand and the Hong Kong / Macau Special Administrative Regions.

The first course in the Hong Kong/Macau area will be held on 24-26 October 2007 and Thailand's first SDC training event will take place on 14-16 November 2007.

To enable the extension of course provision, a new trainer Ms Mali Jattawong, who meets the Society's rigorous standards for running the sessions, has recently been approved for Thailand.

The new locations are the latest "firsts" to arise from the agreement between SGS and the Society for SGS to administer Certificate of Competence training exclusively in certain key parts of the world.

In addition to these courses in Thailand and Hong Kong / Macau, courses have also been held for the first time this year in Mauritius and Pakistan, with courses also delivered in other parts of the world, including China, Sri Lanka, India and the UK.

The gold standard in vocational training from the SDC, the competency courses cover coloration and shade matching on polyester, cotton or wool and principles of colour measurement for quality control or shade matching.

The Golden Age of Couture Paris and London

The Golden Age of Couture: Paris and London

The launch of Christian Dior's New Look in 1947 marked the beginning of a momentous decade in fashion history, one that Dior himself called the "golden age".

Celebrating the end of war and the birth of a new era, it set a standard for dressmaking and high fashion that has rarely been surpassed.

In Paris, couture houses such as Balenciaga, Balmain and Fath attracted worldwide attention for elegance and glamour.

London was renowned for formal state gowns by court dressmakers and impeccable tailoring by designers like Hardy Amies.

The production of couture was important to the prestige and economy of both France and Britain.

While traditionally catering for wealthy private clients, the couture houses also sought new markets.

As the decade progressed, they created perfumes, opened boutiques and licensed their designs to foreign manufacturers.

By the late 1950s, the leading couture houses had become global brands.
