 MTN Durban Fashion Week 2008The diverse cultural melting pot of Durban has spawned a wealth of design talent - with the likes of Gideon, Karen Monk Klijnstra, Vino, Leigh Schubert, Gavin Rajah, Lindiwe Khuzwayo and Craig Native having roots in this city.Firmly established as the cradle of emerging talent, MTN Durban Fashion Week will again in 2008 provide young designers with a platform to exhibit their work to an international audience. "The vibrancy, colour and passion of Durban are the inspiration for the deep well of young creativity in the city. We recognise that South Africa has an abundance of design talent and have focused on developing and growing this talent.  Colleen Baran Exhibition at The Crafts Association of British ColumbiaThe Crafthouse Gallery announced a solo show of new jewelry by Colleen Baran entitled "Like Wearing a Love Letter". The opening is, Thurs, March 27th at 6:00 to 8:00.The jewellery is handmade from diverse materials such as silver, paper, custom made rubber stamps, plastic, recycled gold, and textiles using new, recycled and vintage supplies. In conjunction with this show is an ongoing project "Share Your Love"; an open call collecting stories of love. Baran says: "In the 'Like Wearing a Love Letter' series I wanted to make jewellery that was like a love letter. Like wearing a daydream, a memory or a thought of love." The final pieces include: rings with multiple parts, with multiple layers, for multiple fingers, with little compartments for hiding love stories, with hearts emerging and growing from bands and a ring with a stamp set into it that allows imprints of love to be left behind.  Matthew Williamson: Ten Years in FashionManchester-born Matthew Williamson is a unique success story within the British fashion industry.2007 marks ten years of his career in fashion, and to celebrate we are holding a retrospective of his work this spring. This exhibition will focus on the process and use of pattern, print and colour which have defined Williamson's work and will be centred around four main themes: Colour and Psychedelia; Hyper-nature; Global extravaganza; and Lifestyle, the exhibition will feature iconic pieces from the past decade, including dresses made famous on the red carpet by Sienna Miller, Jade Jagger, Nicole Kidman and Kylie Minogue. We will also be showing a specially commissioned film, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the energy and vision that goes into launching a new collection.
