Label Belgian Post Celebrates Diamonds with Reena Ahluwalias Bel Canto Postage Stamp

Belgian Post Celebrates Diamonds with Reena Ahluwalia's Bel Canto Postage Stamp

Today jewellery artist Reena Ahluwalia's work, "Bel Canto" is captured for posterity by the Belgian Post.

AWDC and Belgian Post have announced the release of Antverpia 2010 postage stamps, a part of the philatelistic program of the Belgian Post.

These stamps announce a European championship and an exhibition of stamps, named Antverpia 2010.

It shows Antwerp as an active town: the transport, the history, the harbour, the fashion and of course the diamonds.

With only a handful of postage stamps in the world featuring diamonds, and even rarer featuring a diamond jewellery piece; this postage stamp is a rare honour for a diamond jewellery piece and a jewellery artist's work.

The diamond necklace featured on the postage stamp uses 101.0 carats of diamonds.

The neckpiece was designed by Reena Ahluwalia in collaboration with Diarough N.V, Belgium and Shrenuj & Co. Ltd.

Speaking on the occasion of this release, Reena Ahluwalia said: "I am deeply honoured as this represents the highest recognition one can get as a diamond jewellery artist.

This is beyond any aspiration, one does not work thinking that one day your work will be on a postage stamp.

It is overwhelming for me, as this small piece of paper represents a microcosm of sorts of the diamond industry."

Comme Des Garcons in Collaboration with HM This Autumn

Comme Des Garcons in Collaboration with H&M This Autumn

Comme des Garcons' founder and head designer Rei Kawakubo will create this autumn's guest designer collection at H&M.

Rei Kawakubo, famous and admired for her creativity and artistry, will design a women's and a men's collection, with some pieces for children too.

Accessories and an exclusive unisex fragrance will also be included in the collection.

"I have always been interested in the balance between creation and business.

It is a dilemma, although for me creation has always been the first priority.

It is a fascinating challenge to work with H&M since it is a chance to take the dilemma to its extreme, and try to solve it", says Rei Kawakubo, Comme des Garcons.

"Rei Kawakubo has been at the top of our wish list for a long time and we are thrilled that she has chosen to collaborate with us.

We have tremendous respect for Kawakubo's fashion philosophy of questioning fashion's ingrained patterns, and admire her artistic approach to design.

We are particularly excited that the collection will be launched in Japan, Kawakubo's native country, at the same time as the launch of our new store there", explains Margareta van den Bosch, creative advisor, H&M.

The world launch of the collection will be at the opening of H&M's second store in Tokyo, Japan, in the beginning of November.

Launch date for other H&M markets will be a few days later.

Designing with Conscience A Sustainable Fashion Symposium

Designing with Conscience: A Sustainable Fashion Symposium

As part of the on-going Year of Eco-Exhibitions, and in conjunction with the exhibition Fashion Conscious, curators Susan Taber Avila, UC Davis design professor, and Julia Schwartz, freelance writer, designer and UCD Design alum, present Designing with Conscience, a speaker symposium looking into the fashion industry and the move towards eco-consciousness.

The dynamic line up of speakers includes Elissa Loughman, environmental analyst at Patagonia, Lynda Grose, consultant for the Sustainable Cotton Project, and Sasha Duerr, director and founder of Permacouture Institute.

The final presentation will be a moderated panel discussion; four designers from the exhibition will address the compromises necessary to promote responsible design.

With all the contradictions and conundrums in the sustainable realm, this exciting afternoon will help everyday fashionistas make informed decisions.

The Design Museum's concurrent exhibition, Fashion Conscious, will display modern and wearable designs by established and up-and-coming green designers.

This exploration will focus on the two most salient points prevalent in contemporary eco-fashion: the use of new materials that claim to be better for the environment and the reuse of existing materials.

The exhibition will also examine the raw materials, their production methods, and question ethical consumption.
