Armani to Design Becks and Co World Cup Kit

Armani to Design Becks and Co World Cup Kit

Italian fashion maestro Giorgio Armani has been chosen to dress England's football heroes for the World Cup.

And while label-loving players, including captain David Beckham, will be thrilled with the choice, the news has ruffled a few feathers as homegrown designers, including tailor-to-the-stars Ozwald Boateng, were overlooked.

England manager Sven Goran Eriksson is convinced his players will lead the style stakes in the hands of the fashionista.

"We will be the best dressed team in Germany," he said proudly.

It is the first time an overseas designer has dressed the World Cup team for their off-pitch wardrobe, although Armani previously designed England's clothing for the 2004 European Championships.

Clearly thrilled to have made the cut, Giorgio is hoping to make England's star players winners off the pitch as well as on.

"Football players are the new style leaders and they are very different to movie stars because they have to display a marked physical and mental discipline that makes them truly heroic" he explained.

The soccer stars will be measured for their classic navy blue wool suits in the next two weeks.

They'll wear the bespoke outfits with flowing white shirts, light blue ties, brown belts and brown leather shoes.

Their first signature store, which is entirely upside down, has won many design awards and was opened in Milan last year.

Angeline Tournier Launched Her First Ever Collection for Spring Summer 2006

Angeline Tournier Launched Her First Ever Collection for Spring Summer 2006

London based French-American footwear designer Angeline Tournier has launched her first ever collection for spring summer 2006.

The designer's debut collection was sold exclusively to prestigious Paris department store, Le Bon Marche and it is sold on-line at her web site.

Having studied shoe design at the prestigious Cordwainers College, Angeline went on to work for Matthew Williamson in accessories.

Prior to studying footwear, Angeline worked in the city as a lawyer for over seven years.

She was offered partnership at her law firm but turned it down to pursue her dream, a career in designing shoes.

Angeline's love of designing shoes stemmed from the fact she wears a size 42.5 (EU).

As her frustration grew with the lack of fashionable footwear in her size, she decided to set up a business designing and manufacturing shoes in sizes EU 36 to 44.

"I wanted to make fashionable shoes that all women could wear and for women with large feet not to feel they had to go to a marginalised specialist store to find average bland shoes in their size" says the designer.

Angeline designs on a larger last (EU 40) instead of the usual size 37 to ensure the shoe looks great on big or small feet.
