FILA NYCOLLECTIVE Project

FILA + NYCOLLECTIVE Project

The FILA + NYCOLLECTIVE PROJECT is an inspired partnership between Fila and New York Collective for the Arts.

Providing a platform for artists to showcase their creative works, the endeavor is strengthened by Fila's commitment to l'arte nello sport, as well as NYCOLLECTIVE'S artistic talent and dedication to fostering new art.

The first phase of the project, titled ARTISTS PLAY TOO, is a limited edition t-shirt series, designed by an exclusive group of emerging artists in collaboration with NYCOLLECTIVE.

This collection bridges the artist's personal reflection of the union of art and sport, with Fila's vision of l'arte nello sport, a presentation of the beauty of performance and the personal fulfillment of participation.

The limited edition t-shirts will be dropped exclusively at US Fila retail stores on a bi-weekly basis starting in April 2006.

City Bag by Kristiina Lassus for Alessi

City Bag by Kristiina Lassus for Alessi

The City Bag, designed by Finnish designer Kristiina Lassus, constitutes Alessi first foray into the world of bags.

It was conceived primarily as a large shopping bag, but may also be used as a general metropolitan carrier bag.

Furthermore, it makes no bones about its aspiration to become a small cult object.

This practical shopping bag (45x15cm), made of 600/600 polyester, comes with 2 handy 100% polyester handles.

The two external sides are decorated with the inscription "food", printed by means of a high frequency plasticized silk-screening process.

The bag comes with a practical polyurethane (PU) zipper and a handy external pocket, while inside there are 2 small pockets, 1 larger zipped pocket and a bottle holder.

Singaporean Designer Ashley Isham Sews Global Success

Singaporean Designer Ashley Isham Sews Global Success

On a catwalk decorated with Moroccan lanterns and black draping, a model with her face painted saunters out under a shower of petals.

She wears a shimmering gold gown adorned with sequins and intricate brocade -- a creation of local hero Ashley Isham.

His debut solo show at Singapore Fashion Festival marked a glorious homecoming for the designer who as a student quit the straightlaced city state for the creative freedom of London and has since joined the rising elite of international fashion.

The boyish-faced Isham, 30, who sports a punky look with his gold earring and spiky hair, has earned numerous accolades and rave reviews since launching his label five years ago, dressing scores of celebrities and even royalty.

His most notable success, he says, was being named the official women's wear designer for the 2004 British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards, an event often called the British Oscars.

After that, Isham's star rose.

With his luscious jersey dresses routinely featured in high-fashion magazines, Isham has garnered celebrity fans including Angelina Jolie, Lady Zara Philips, Kylie Minogue, Dido, Jodie Kidd and Mariah Carey.

Yet Isham, who profusely apologizes when he enters the interview room 10 minutes late, seems remarkably grounded despite his fame.

Armani Reveals Deal with Mizuno

Armani Reveals Deal with Mizuno

Giorgio Armani has inked a deal with Japanese high-tech sneaker brand Mizuno to create a new fashion-forward footwear collection.

Armani will debut the new advanced sneaker collection in his men's wear show in Milan this June.

The move means Armani joins a group of elite group of designers to have created fashionable sneakers with international sports brands.

Jil Sander made a limited series of sports shoes with Puma, prior to her quitting the house she founded in a dispute with its majority owner, Patrizio Bertelli of Prada.

Neil Barrett also has a line with Puma, while, probably most famously to date, Yohji Yamamoto developed avant garde sneakers with Adidas, a collaboration that later developed into their joint fashion label Y-3.

However, Armani, whose commercial reach is infinitely larger than any of the above named designers, insists his Mizuno project will be that bit different.

"I wanted to create special sneakers, but for me the key thing is that they be authentic, where technology and fashion meets.

In my view no one makes more advanced sneakers than Mizuno, so it's a great arrangement," Armani told FWD during his visit this week to China.

Marimekko Textiles Fashion Architecture

Marimekko: Textiles, Fashion, Architecture

Armi and Viljo Ratia established the company Marimekko in 1951 to brighten up post-war Finland with trendy interior textiles and groovy clothes.

The company earned itself a world-wide reputation by 1960.

Jacky Kennedy, wife of presidential candidate John F. Kennedy, bought seven dresses with a label that had remained almost unknown until then.

The textiles, with their big graphic patterns in bright colours, became an icon of the sixties.

In the early 1980s the company disappeared from the spotlights.

Kirsti Paakkanen was asked to give Marimekko a new Član in 1991.

And she managed to do just that.

Like Armi Ratia did before her, Paakkanen attracted the best Finnish designers.

The range of strong and highly recognizable prints from the sixties was extended with contemporary creations.

The exhibition will take place between 16 December 2006 and 9 April 2007.
