Designers go naughty at LIFW launchIndia's annual fashion week kicked off Tuesday with a risque set showing off dashes of skin in traditional costumes as Indian designers seek a bigger chunk of the global haute couture market.
Top designer Rina Dhaka's autumn-winter collection, called "a lustrous affair with India," featured gold, silver and mirror embroidery on skirts, slacks, lingerie and Indian blouses with skin peeping through cuts and nicks.
Her outfits had flesh-toned and ivory capris, bra tops, skirts and catsuits.
"It is a very, very Sex and the City girl look," said leading New Delhi fashion critic Anshu Khanna, referring to the sultry US television show.
"Very, very naughty with the cuts and the holes here and there. But this is Rina Dhaka."
Dhaka is among the 57 designers who will participate in the Lakme India Fashion Week, billed as India's largest design event.
