Wool in vogue for summerThe change is not so evident as one could perceive in fashion shows: changes and novelties presented by manufacturers in their collections are certainly less striking than those launched by celebrated designers on the catwalk. However, this does not mean that innovations do not exist or are negligible.
By looking at the spring/summer 2005 collections presented by woollen and worsted manufacturers at Ideabiella, in March, it is apparent that revolutions can be made one move at a time and, most important, they neither can be improvised nor are the result of a sudden inspiration, but rather they are the outcome of a constant and in-depth search for style and quality and of continuous innovation.
Already seen in its winter 2004 collection, Loro Piana proposes for next summer its new 'Pecora Nera' (black sheep), a series of fabrics made from New Zealand Merino wool, exclusively derived from the fleece of dark sheep, which is the result of a painstaking selection by Fiona Gardner, a breeder, who devoted herself to the task after discovering that this was the original colour of the sheep bred in ancient times.
But this is not the only feather in the cap of the firm sited in Quarona: there is also the summer version of 'Tasmanian', coupled with finest silk, and of 'Zelander', coupled with linen.
