Fashion Wins When It Comes to Holiday ShoesWhether it's stilettos or high-heeled boots, women are sacrificing comfort for fashion more during the holidays than any other time of the year.
"We just like to dress up and look sophisticated every now and then,"says shopper Hazel Lee.
Shopper Stephanie Alston says she'll go for a higher heel to elevate her style during the holiday season.
"During the holidays I kind of go over my one and a half inch rule,"says Alston.
Stephanie has her limits on how high she'll step up for fashion.
"I don't go higher than two and a half inches," said Alston. "It's just not good for your back and not good for the legs and comfort is still the most important."
Podiatrist Todd Newsom of Atlantic Foot Ankle Specialists in Savannah says many problems can result from high-heeled shoes. He says in the long term women can develop structural problems like hammertoes, bunions and heel pain. He says problems in the foot are often connected to other problems in the body.
"Any problem we have with our foot is going to be magnified as it travels up our leg," Newsom said.
