Fashion Magazine Sets Its Sights on Global A-listLaunched online in 1997, it moved to a glossy magazine in October.
It can now be bought in London, Sydney, Melbourne and throughout New Zealand and next month will launch its first translated version in Romania.
The monthly fashion-focused magazine employs a core staff of 25 people and up to 200 part-time writers, photographers and columnists based in New York, Montreal, London, Australia and New Zealand.
Though not a money-spinner yet, it sells about 20,000 copies in New Zealand and 3000 overseas. Mr Yan and editor-in-chief Nicola Brockie are looking ahead to possible launches in northern Europe and the Middle East.
According to Mr Yan, the magazine is already gracing the coffee tables of the rich and famous, including those of actor Eddie Murphy's wife, Nicole, Australian supermodel Sarah O'Hare and film director Spike Lee. It is also about to make its debut in a Hollywood film in which it will feature on the shelves of an upmarket hair salon owned by Rene Russo's character in Two for the Money, also starring Al Pacino.
Mr Yan, who was born in Hong Kong but has lived in Wellington since the age of three, got his first taste of self-employment when he started a calligraphy business while still at Scots College. That resulted in his writing the menus for a United Nations Children's Fund dinner in honour of a
