Talented Fashion Students Clean Up at NT Fashion AwardsCharles Darwin University students and a fashion studies lecturer have picked up 10 out of the 12 awards at the 25th annual NT Fashion Awards, including the much-coveted Chief Ministers award.
More than 60 entries were received for the awards night held Saturday 25 June.
Fashion studies student Jaz Andre won the Chief Ministers award for her 'punk graffiti' design - made from recycled bicycle tubes and valve stems. Jaz also incorporated a mix of fabrics, including leather, tulle and mesh in her jacket and skirt ensemble.
Charles Darwin University Visual Arts graduate, Cathy Vanderaa, scooped the pool winning four awards - Territory Lifestyle, Wearable Art, Best Business Practice and the Supreme award. Her designs included gold roo jeans featuring animal skins, but it was her wearable art g-string bikini outfit that won the Supreme award.
Fashion lecturer Trish Evans won the craft award for her skirt and top ensemble, complete with a matching handbag and jewellery.
Ms Evans maintained her tradition of creating wearable designs from unusual media, using 'coloured pencils' to create her designs. Even the pencil shavings were used- encased in the organza wrap.
