A dozen students from RMIT's fashion school are frantically preparing for their crack at international recognition this week.
As the world sleeps, they work, finding round-the-clock days a small price for a chance to be fashion's "next big thing".
Wednesday is D-day.
They will show their work for local and Asia-Pacific buyers and media at Australian Fashion Week, one of two trade events on concurrently with Spring Fashion Week in Melbourne.
"There's some global go-getters in this group," said Denise Sprynskyj, fourth-year co-ordinator of fashion in RMIT's school of architecture and design.
"There are some passionate, driven students as good as any in the world."
And as good as any crop of recent graduates from RMIT.
Ms Sprynskyj said the university's reputation for students comparable to those from London's St Martins and Royal College fashion schools is growing fast.
It's no small claim in an industry that closely monitors its hatching grounds and snaps up young stars, often before they have cut their teeth on a commercial collection.
