Dick Bruna's character "miffy", the cartoon bunny, has grown over a period of 50 years to become an international phenomenon as a character in children's books and as a design icon.
Dick Bruna's entire work will have a permanent home in the dick bruna huis in Utrecht.
Dick Bruna's work (born in 1927) is distinguished by its sharp lines and colours.
This earned him a very individual place within the modernistic Dutch design tradition, which began with Gerrit Rietveld in the 1920's and stretched to Droog Design in the 1990's.
The search for a simple, clear design, often with a humorous streak and a sense of social awareness is part of Dutch history.
Eighty years after Gerrit Rietveld's famous red and blue chair, miffy has conquered the world: minimalism with a wink.
Bruna began his search for a simple, visual style in his youth when he worked in his father's publishing company as a designer of book covers.
His best-known creation is the world famous bunny, "miffy".
She has a face that consists of a little diagonal cross for a mouth and two dots for the eyes.

Planet Propaganda has designed and illustrated American Players Theatre's annual Book of Summer.
In addition to enticing audiences with a preview of APT's 2006 performances on the outdoor stage, Planet created the piece as a tangible keepsake for those who return year-after-year.
The theatre's loyal following have established the Shakespearean repertory company of Spring Green, Wis., as one of the most popular outdoor classical theatres in the country.
Planet Propaganda has contributed 16 years of creativity and strategic thinking to securely position APT as part of an essential, summer experience: driving through rolling rural hills, dining on wine and cheese, enjoying a casual atmosphere set within the lush summer woods, walking uphill at sunset to the intimate 1,200-seat amphitheater, and watching celebrated classical theatre late into the night.
"The audience gets more than just a world-class Shakespearean performance," says Dana Lytle, Planet co-founder and creative director.
"APT is a complete experience, a whole afternoon or evening spent in the presence of art and nature."
By celebrating this experience, and the theatre's unique place in the Wisconsin summer landscape, Planet conveys a consistent marketing message while finding inspiration for a fresh approach each year.
