PANTONE Releases 125 New Specialty Colors

PANTONE Releases 125 New Specialty Colors

Pantone, Inc., the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries, announced the availability of 125 new specialty colors.

The new PANTONE metallic formula guide features 97 new metallic shades and the PANTONE pastel formula guide features 28 new pastel colors, making this the broadest collection of PANTONE Specialty Colors available today.

Designers, printers and their clients now have more choices for subtle and shimmering tones to enhance the shelf-appeal of products and influence consumers' perceptions of quality.

The new PANTONE metallic and pastel color palettes are available in fan guide format for convenience and portability, or as loose-leaf chips books with tear-out color swatches for easy color specification.

In addition, replacement pages are available for both PANTONE metallic chips and PANTONE pastel chips, making it easy for designers to update their PANTONE Color reference books with the latest specialty colors.

"Designers are incorporating more specialty colors into their designs - especially metallic colors," said Doris Brown, vice president of marketing for Pantone, Inc.

"Without them it would be impossible to reproduce the true luster and sleek shine of a new sports car or the pale rosy blush of a peach.

Erasmus Prize 2006 Awarded to Frances Pierre Bernard

Erasmus Prize 2006 Awarded to France's Pierre Bernard

The Board of the Praemium Erasmianum Foundation has decided to award the Erasmus Prize 2006 to the French graphic designer, Pierre Bernard.

The Erasmus Prize is awarded annually to a person who has made an exceptionally important contribution to European culture, society or social science.

The presentation of the prize will take place on 24 November 2006.

The field in which the 2006 Erasmus Prize will be awarded has been described as 'Design for the public domain'.

This includes the realm of the state, politics and the common good.

In making this choice for the public domain the Foundation did not consider the designer who functions as a specialist in form, fashion and market, but rather the designer as thinker who, during the design process, is conscious of forms of interaction with other disciplines, users and commissioning parties.

The Art of the Comic Strip Tate Modern Workshop

The Art of the Comic Strip: Tate Modern Workshop

Drawing on mass-media sources from newspapers and magazines to photography, film and pulp-fiction book covers, this workshop explores the influence of comic strips on fine art and film.

Many artists have contributed comics to newspapers; others, like Federico Fellini, have used comic storyboards to plan films.

The tutor shows examples of Art Nouveau comic masterpieces, as well as more recent work by Robert Crumb, Daniel Clowes, Douglas Huebler, Raymond Pettibon and others.

Between sessions, participants are asked to experiment with simple methods of comic production from montage to scriptwriting.

Participants do not need to have good drawing skills to attend.
