The merger was beneficial on many levels, allowing Fijit's clients access to a wider range of services and Brandwidth acquired a broad portfolio of creative innovation and experience.

Having previously been the Joint Creative Director at Fijit, Dean Johnson has now taken the role of Creative Director at Brandwidth and has been developing the new corporate branding and implementation, rolling out Q1 2006.

Jamie Hewlett: Gorillaz Cartoonist up for Award

The cartoonist behind animated band Gorillaz has been nominated for the £25,000 Designer of the Year award.

Jamie Hewlett, who co-created the group with ex-Blur star Damon Albarn, is one of four nominees up for the annual prize, organised by the Design Museum.

Other contenders are the humanitarian designer Cameron Sinclair, furniture designer Tom Dixon and the design team behind the Guardian newspaper.

Shortlisted work will go on display at the museum, in London, on 4 March.

The public can vote on the Designer of the Year website before the winner is announced in May.

London-born Cameron Sinclair, 32, is nominated for his work with the humanitarian group Architecture for Humanity.

It has been constructing schools, medical clinics and community centres in the aftermath of the tsunami, Hurricane Katrina and the Pakistan earthquake.

The Guardian's design team, led by creative director Mark Porter, is nominated for the newspaper's redesign in its new Berliner format.

Tom Dixon, 46, who taught himself how to weld metal furniture after quitting art school, was selected for his new furniture and lighting designs.

The judges who nominated the shortlist were chairwoman Alice Rawsthorn, director of the Design Museum; TV presenter Kevin McCloud; Burberry creative director Christopher Bailey

Guardian on Shortlist for Top Design Award

Guardian on Shortlist for Top Design Award

The team behind the Guardian's Berliner relaunch has been nominated for the Designer of the Year award, the design world's equivalent of the Turner or the Booker prize.

It is the first time an editorial design project has been shortlisted for the honour.

Alice Rawsthorn, chair of the jury and director of the Design Museum, which runs the prize, said: "The team behind the Guardian redesign set out to create a model modern newspaper - and they succeeded.

"Unlike some other newspaper format changes, this was not just a shrink-to-fit.

Every aspect of the paper was revitalised and reinvented.

This is an extraordinarily innovative and intelligent way of addressing the commercial challenges of the newspaper industry."

The other shortlisted designers were Jamie Hewlett, the visual genius behind the virtual band Gorillaz; Cameron Sinclair, for his pioneering work with Architecture for Humanity; and Tom Dixon, the innovative furniture designer.

The award seeks to recognise the UK designer or design team that has made most contribution to design in the past year.

Former winners include Jonathan Ive, Apple Computers' head of design.

Mark Porter, the Guardian's creative editor, said: "One of the reasons that it is incredibly gratifying to be nominated is that the jury has acknowledged how much of our work is about usability.
