Meet New Impulses in Graphic Design Face to Face 5

Meet New Impulses in Graphic Design : Face to Face 5

When visual designers and clients present themselves to the participants of Face to Face 5* in the Design Center Stuttgart in March, Malaysia will be the first guest country from outside Europe. Once again, the successful Face to Face concept promises to be a graphic design highlight. Close cooperation between the Design Center Stuttgart and its Malaysian partner organization, Pertubuhan Wakaf Reka Grafik Malaysia WREGA, is the guarantee of a varied programme - one which will once again live up to its motto "For a better understanding between client and designer".

The event is centred around a two-day conference, whose focus on dialogue means that not only the many speakers from the two countries will be able to have their say, but equally that delegates will be able to network and forge contacts. From Germany, probable contributors include such well-known studios as United Ideas or Pentagram Design. The latter will be presenting itself together with its client Star Alliance Services. What is striking about the many topics, however, is their diversity. Delegates will get to know not only the global players among the clients and design studios, but also companies and service providers whose market presence is characterized by unconventional, highly innovative products. For example, there is the virtual cemetery for animals w

Nodus Design Logo Competition

Nodus Design Logo Competition

This is the moment to show everybody your skills and win a wonderful prize! Nodus Design are giving you the chance to win free, premium, high visibility advertising on our site until 2006 as well as worldwide fame for designing the logo! (Maybe not quite worldwide.)

For the next 3 months we will be running a competition to design the logo for our new company brand. We would be delighted if you, (yes you, the person reading this) entered our competition. You don't have to be a design guru (but it might help your chances). The competition will run in a single stage format and is open to everyone apart from the actual judges themselves. That means that entries can come from anyone, including professional design agencies, but all logos will be judged on their merit alone.

Opiva will be a multi-faceted design firm, involved in new media avenues such as web design, 2d graphics, 3d modeling and animation as well as providing services to the design industry such as a design directory and awards program.

Opiva will become a major name in the design industry/community and the identity needs to clearly reflect this. The logo must project an image of professionalism, strength, confidence and integrity whist still retaining a creative influence. When designing the logo think... modern, clean, and understated. There is no colour schem

Making the Brand Behind the Badge

Making the Brand: Behind the Badge

Brand truly has arrived when consumers are willing to spend their hard-earned disposable income on clothing, toys, housewares and anything that's not nailed down that bears the logo of their favorite liquid refreshment.

Licensing products that reach brand devotees during even the most beverage-free moments of their day long has been a key profit center and marketing vehicle in the beverage business.

Take the obvious example: Every few years or so a new line of Coca-Cola clothing shows up on department store racks just to keep shoppers from forgetting who's on top in the soft drink business.

At last count, The Coca-Cola company licensed its logo, bottle design and other easy identifiers for more than 10,000 products around the world.

If that seems astonishing, visit one of the dedicated Coke merchandise stores in New York, Atlanta or Las Vegas.

Part of what has made beverage behemoths like Coca-Cola so successful (aside from their knack for selling a few drinks), has been their ability to maintain consistent sense of brand identity and their unwillingness to ever sell that identity short. "It is important for brands to hold true to their identity," advises Charles Riotto, president of the International Licensing Industry Merchandisers' Association (LIMA, New York City).

"First and foremost, a brand is the promi

The Eastern Arizona College Offers New Certificate in Graphic Design

The Eastern Arizona College Offers New Certificate in Graphic Design

The Eastern Arizona College Art Department is gearing up to offer a new short-term certificate program in Graphic Design.

This 21-credit-hour certificate will prepare students for entry-level employment in an advertising agency, art agency, newspaper, printing plant, industrial in-plant printing unit and free-lance work.

The program is designed to be completed in as little as two semesters and is targeted to high school students in the Gila Institute for Technology (GIFT) program and part-time students wanting to get a jump on a career in graphic and advertising design.

Jeb Earl, EAC's graphic design instructor, said, "This program will open the door for people to come in and get started, whether they want to go right into the job market or go on to obtain a degree."

The difference between the certificate and EAC's Associate of Applied Science degree in advertising design is the absence of the general education requirements. The certificate also focuses on teaching many of the industry software applications used by graphic designers today, such as Adobe's Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustra-tor and InDesign.

Eastern Arizona College offers graphic design students the latest technology. Industry-standard computers and printers will allow students to learn on the tools that practicing graphic designers use
