Design a Poster and Win Tickets

Design a Poster and Win Tickets

Design a poster to help City mark FIFA Fair Play Day.

Leicester City will celebrate World Fair Play Day at their home match against Burnley.

Every football match played on Saturday, September 18 will promote the sporting spirit of the game. And we need your help.

We are asking Junior Foxes to design a poster for the day which will be displayed in the main reception at the Walkers Stadium in the week up to the special day.

You could feature Foxes players, coaches, referees and fans on your drawing - and make sure they are all demonstrating fair play and respect!

And there are four tickets to the Burnley game up for grabs for the best entry.

Let's show the world that football brings people together!

Send your drawing plus name, age, Junior Foxes Membership number and daytime telephone number to LCFC (FIFA Junior Foxes comp), Publications Department, Walkers Stadium, Filbert Way, Leicester LE2 7FL.

* Full details of the competition are available from LCFC

Vancouver 2010 Logo Design Competition Attracts More Than One Hundred Entries

Vancouver 2010 Logo Design Competition Attracts More Than One Hundred Entries

With less than two weeks until the closing date for submissions to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Emblem Design Competition, VANOC officials say they have already received more than 100 entries.

John Furlong, chief executive officer of VANOC said, "the look of the Games starts with the emblem. Once we have a logo that will depict the theme of Canada's 2010 Winter Games, we will develop our own unique design to create an electric atmosphere for athletes and spectators throughout our Games host region".

The design competition is open to Canadian designers, creative professionals and design students.

An international nine-member panel of judges includes people with experience in the areas of art, design and branding.

Deadline for submissions is September 15, 2004.

There is one prize to be awarded to the entrant whose design is chosen as the emblem. It's $25, 000 (Can.) and two tickets to the opening ceremonies of the Vancouver 2010 Games scheduled to take place on February 12, 2010.

All design submissions must be received at VANOC no later than 18:00 hours Pacific Time on Wednesday September 15, 2004.

The new logo will be unveiled in early 2005.

Family Circle Hits 40 with Design Revamp to Boost Sales

Family Circle Hits 40 with Design Revamp to Boost Sales

Family Circle, the IPC Media women's magazine, is celebrating its 40th birthday with a new look that will see the re-introduction of a female cover model as it struggles against declining sales.

The magazine will get a fresh logo, which has been updated to modernise the brand but also to echo the original logo of the magazine when it launched in 1964.

The re-introduction of a female cover model is designed to give the title a more glamorous edge, as well as indicating that women are as likely to be shopping for clothes as well as food.

Design changes, which have been gradually introduced over the past year, have seen the arrival of modern layouts, innovative use of typography and pictures.

The new-look edition will also come with a free 'Love it! Lose it!' diet booklet giving readers tips on how to lose a stone in a month and a special feature on the life of a Family Circle reader in 2004 compared with 40 years ago.

Julie Barton-Breck, editor of Family Circle, said: "In response to in-depth reader research, we've been reinforcing our appeal to busy, modern women and focusing on simple solutions to make their life easier.

"I believe that the reintroduction of a cover model, along with the other drop-in pictures and stand-out cover lines, reflects that approach."

Zen Tay Surviving not by Chance but Design

Zen Tay: Surviving not by Chance but Design

Four years ago, Zen Tay made the headlines. Not old enough to register a company or catch an R(A) show, the then 19-year-old student at Nanyang Polytechnic started a design and advertising firm with his own savings.

Zen Tay is now 23, and old in the ways of the world.

His name also seems a lot more appropriate now, especially when you consider his calm manner despite the roller-coaster ride he has been on the last four years.

When he first hit the pages of The Straits Times in 2000, he was a 19-year-old held up as an shining example of entrepreneurship.

Now, four years later, his design consultancy is still surviving, but Mr Tay is a lot more, well, Zen in his approach to business, having had to put it on the backburner because of National Service (NS), and because the intervening years have been rough on most ventures, never mind one run on the ideals and energy of a 19-year-old.

Talk to him now, and he says things like 'I would not have survived if people did not extend a helping hand...'

There's more: 'It's a big responsibility... ', and 'you really have to plan ahead so you don't go hungry...'

For the young entrepreneur, challenges came from all angles. From clients who saw a chance to take advantage of his inexperience, to grappling with the reality of business, to the biggest one of all - the NS hiatu
