Clean lines and crisp design are the key words to describe the 2004 Graphic Design Show and Competition.
The juried student show features the works of several designers, with a few repeat artists as well. Some entries include corporate identity pieces like letterheads and business cards, package design, a few illustrations, book covers and publication design.
First place winner was senior Laura Thwaites with her entry, "Mutter Museum." Her package design, including a gift bag, wooden box and brochure featured great sense of color balance and a unique double skeleton illustration.
Ashleigh Cobb took second place. Her entry, "Paisley Puppy," used a primary color scheme for her three puppy biscuit tins. The design is extremely busy and intricate, but works well with the confident labeling.
Third place winner, Steven Hampton, created a spiral-bound book titled, "Neville Brody."
Three honorable mentions were given. Cobb received one for her spiral-bound book "Daniel Pelavin...A Reviewed Selection of Works."

International Design Conference About Typography and Fonts.
The theme of the TYPO Berlin 2004 is what our name is all about: Type. An essential facet of our (analog and digital) lives. Recent advances in electronic technology call for new approaches to how we perceive and use type. From May 13th - 15th, 2004, graphic artists and media designers, advertisers, typographers and arts scholars will present their latest work and thoughts concerning the field of typography at the TYPO 2004.
Is there a future for type? TYPO Berlin says: Yes!
Media theorist Vilém Flusser predicted the end of type in 1989 as he imagined type drowning in a world saturated by images, and David Carson announced the end of the printed word in 1995. Even Platon was critical towards type: it harms the memory and inc
