SV Associates Design Orientation System for Kunstmuseum Dieselkraftwerk Cottbus

SV Associates Design Orientation System for Kunstmuseum Dieselkraftwerk Cottbus

Due to open in May 2008 the Kunstmuseum Dieselkraftwerk Cottbus will be doing for Cottbus what the Tate Modern has done for London.

An expressionist diesel-electric power station constructed in 1927 originally designed by Werner Issel has been transformed into an contemporary art museum.

The typeface Neo Futura by Milton Glaser was chosen for all signs, its industrial feel providing reference to the original power station signs.

Applied directly to the concrete walls and as vinyl lettering to painted surfaces the museum has been provided with a simple cost effective system.

The Neo Futura will also be used for the main external signs, advertising banner and flags.

SV Associates have worked closely both with Anderhalten Architekten in Berlin who were responsible for the renovation and also the new user.

It was important to find a solution that functions with the powerful architecture and also provides a reference to the past while supporting the contemporary use.

Nemetschek Relaunches Brand Image

Nemetschek Relaunches Brand Image

The Nemetschek Group has launched a new brand image on the market.

The core of the new brand is the slogan "moving minds", together with the use of a horizon as the key visual and a logo that reflects the group's diversity.

The new corporate design is a central component of Nemetschek's strategic positioning as a leading international vendor of software solutions for the entire lifecycle of buildings.

The two subsidiaries Nemetschek Allplan and Nemetschek Scia are also launching a new brand image at the same time as Nemetschek AG.

This comprises a logo, a website as well as print media and product packaging design.

"With the new umbrella brand strategy, we will continue to improve our good position on the international AEC market and develop our strengths for the benefit of our customers," says Ernst Homolka, CFO and Board Spokesman, Nemetschek AG.

The new public image will not only create the necessary clarity for the group's broad product portfolio, it will also clearly set the group apart from its competitors, continues Ernst Homolka.

In future, the Nemetschek Group's international orientation will be communicated through a clear, worldwide, public image: the umbrella brand logo will apply internationally and will be used in combination with the "moving minds" slogan to represent the diversity of the group and the individuality of every product brand.

Japonisme in American Graphic Art 1880-1920

Japonisme in American Graphic Art, 1880-1920

Featuring more than twenty-five rarely seen works on paper from the Brooklyn Museum's permanent collection, this exhibition explores the impact of Japanese art on the graphic arts of America in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

During this period, Americans were avidly discovering, studying, and collecting the arts of Japan.

Artists were particularly fascinated by these exotic objects and found in them inspiration for revitalizing Western pictorial traditions.

James McNeill Whistler, Mary Cassatt, Robert Blum, Winslow Homer, Arthur Wesley Dow, and others began incorporating Japanese motifs, aesthetic principles, and techniques into their own art - a phenomenon known by the French term "Japonisme."

Japonisme in American Graphic Art, 1880-1920 examines myriad manifestations of Japonisme in a selection of fine etchings, lithographs, watercolors, pastels, and other graphic media created by American artists.

James McNeill Whistler, for example, created compositions with dramatic contrasts of blank and filled areas and subtle atmospheric effects.

His brand of aesthetics influenced many younger Americans, including Joseph Pennell and Robert Blum.

Mary Cassatt was inspired by Japanese prints to create some of her most formally and technically daring color etchings characterized by flattened figures, unmodulated planes of color, and strong linear design.can Art.

DMY International Design Festival

DMY International Design Festival

Following the DMY Fly High! motto on the "Youngsters" 5th anniversary last year, DMY Berlin aims even higher in 2008.

From May 21 - 25, under the title The Sky Is Not The Limit, protagonists of the national and international design scenes take the stage for the sixth time running to discuss the latest trends, explore current innovations and exchange creative ideas.

Thus, borders become interfaces as night fades to day: this is design as a several-day, non-stop program marathon!

First off: DMY Berlin has expanded.

After successfully establishing themselves as a platform for young, experimental design over the past few years, DMY Berlin now reveals increasingly flowing outlines, as the exhibition becomes a festival.

With the newly created module DMY Allstars, DMY Berlin respond to the spate of requests made by national and international designers, and include the work of notorious and well-established creative forces within the DMY International Design Festival.

In addition to the DMY Youngsters impressive main exhibition venue located on the Arena grounds, the DMY Allstars create the opportunity of exploiting external locations.

In the form of satellite events dispersed throughout the entire city of Berlin, national and international exhibitors, design groups, as well local creative talents join forces while taking part in thematic exhibitions, group shows and open studios all along the exhibition circuit.
