Campaign to Change the Flag's DesignIt is time to rebrand New Zealand and cash in on our new popularity by turfing our "irrelevant" flag, says another batch of prominent New Zealanders.
Saatchi advertising boss Kevin Roberts, fashion designer Karen Walker, mountaineer Graeme Dingle, artist Dick Frizzell and founder of the Life Education Trust, Trevor Grice, today backed an online campaign to change the flag's design.
Walker called the existing flag "irrelevant and unidentifiable" while Roberts said Peter Jackson's Rings trilogy had raised the stakes.
"New Zealand is again a hot dinner topic in Los Angeles and New York. We must capitalise on this and not let the opportunity slip.
"We need to keep the conversation going; increase our national identity here at home and overseas."
Identities such as Neil Finn, Olympic medallist Barbara Kendall and squash champion Dame Susan Devoy have also endorsed the campaign, seeking 300,000 signatures by early next year for a referendum on a new national flag.
