Looking at work from as early as the 1600s through to the golden age of illustration in the nineteenth century, Illustrated Children's Books examines the history, development and design of children's books in great detail from the very beginning.

From post-World War II progressions in colour printing and the emergence of new illustrative styles in the 1960s and 70s, to the iconic illustrations, stories and characters produced in the last hundred years.

Produced in association with the Booktrust and the Ezra Jack Keats foundation in New York, Illustrated Children's Books provides a rare glimpse into the history and provenance of the characters we all know and love.

As well as an analysis of more contentious material such as Noddy and Little Black Sambo, explored here in a socio-historical context.
