Artist Colony Selects Logo Contest WinnerIf you love the arts, Thursday night in downtown Zanesville was designed for you.
The winner of the logo design competition for the Artist Colony of Zanesville was announced at Studio Z Photography on S. 7th St. Thursday evening.
Travis Short, 32, who grew up in Zanesville and is now a free-lance artist and advertising director in Cleveland, was the winner of the 87 entries from all over Ohio.
Short said he entered the competition after his mother called him and told him of the artist colony and new studios opening throughout the Zanesville area.
"When I was growing up there wasn't a lot for artists to do in this area," Short said. "I think what this studio and Alan Cottrill are doing for the area, along with the many artists who are moving here to be inspired and share their work, is a good start."
Short believes encouraging art among the young is needed.
Agreeing with Short are two artists who also had a grand opening of their gallery and studio, Studio 202, Susan Nash and Susan Stubbins.
Their gallery and studio, located at 47 N. 4th St., opened with displays of their quilted pieces.
Stubbins proudly displayed three pieces of quilted wall hangings made from memories collected from her mother-in-law.
Chole, 4, and Cassie Eicher, 7, were two aspiring artists who really liked Stubbins work.
