Metropolis Publisher, Editor Honored with Art Center College of Design DegreesArt Center College of Design has awarded Doctor of Humane Letters honorary doctorate degrees to Metropolis magazine publisher Horace Havemeyer III and the magazine's editor in chief, Susan Szenasy.
Mr. Havemeyer founded Metropolis 25 years ago.
Ms. Szenasy has been Metropolis's chief editor since 1986.
Under their direction, Metropolis pioneered coverage and advocacy of sustainable, collaborative design, and has won international recognition and numerous awards.
Metropolis examines contemporary life through all aspects of design: architecture, interior design, landscape design, product design, graphic design, crafts, planning, and preservation.
"Our honorary degrees celebrate the values of our institution: recognition of individual achievement and creativity, best practices in design, and social consideration.
All of these are brilliantly embodied by Metropolis," said Richard Koshalek, president of Art Center College of Design.
"Horace and Susan richly deserve our recognition for their visionary perspectives on the role of design in the world, as well as our gratitude for their support of our mission and our programs."
