Government Challenge to Design a Green Family Car

Alistair Darling, Secretary of State for Transport, has challenged car makers to design and build a new, affordable, ultra-low carbon family car - in exchange for a £10 million prize.
Although commercial development has started on a new generation of fuel efficient cars - hydrogen powered, for example - these are likely to be 15 to 20 years from production. In the meantime, funded by the DfTs New Vehicle Technology Fund, a new project called the Ultra Low Carbon Car Challenge, has been set up.
