China on Its Way to Becoming World's Largest Online Market

JWT, the largest advertising agency in the U.S. and the fourth largest full-service network in the world, today released "The Han Internet," a trendletter exploring the next big force online.

The Han Internet - a phrase coined by JWT to denote the online world that is characterized and shaped by Chinese language, culture and needs - is poised to become dominant in the dot-com world as its user population grows rapidly and international venture capital pours in.

"By most estimates, China will be the largest market online within the next three to five years," notes Ann Mack, director of trendspotting at JWT.

"Multinational companies looking to penetrate the billions-strong market must leverage the Internet to reach the leading edge of Chinese consumers, the bulk of whom are young, sophisticated and insatiably curious about the products and brands around them."
