Ferre Launches Foundation to Commemorate Designer

February 16, 2008  |  Levent OZLER

Gianfranco Ferre has launched a foundation to look after and put on show the fashion collections and other work of its founder, who died in June.

The foundation - in its infancy and still looking for an appropriate home in Milan -- aims to mark the 40th anniversary of Ferre's first fashion show in October this year with the publication of a book and the start of a Web site with access to his designs, Rita Airaghi, director-general, said on Thursday.

"At the moment, the foundation is minimalist, simple, elementary ... it was set up yesterday so it's very fresh," Airaghi told reporters at its launch.

"It would be good to mark the anniversary of the first Ferre show in October, 1968."

The foundation plans to catalogue the Italian designer's work, photographs and press clippings, as well as eventually offering scholarships and educational program.
