Kunsthaus Zürich Presents Shifting Identities Swiss Art Now

Kunsthaus Zürich Presents Shifting Identities: (Swiss) Art Now

March 1, 2008  |  Levent OZLER

From 14 March until 8 June (Intro) and from 6 June until 31 August 2008 the Kunsthaus Zürich will be featuring contemporary Swiss and international art.

The show, in two parts, will be spread over the Kunsthaus, Zurich Airport and the centre of Zurich.

The recent paintings, videos, sculptures, drawings, performances and sound installations are all concerned with issues of identity.

The group show "Shifting Identities - (Swiss) art now" focuses on the traces of globalisation to be found in contemporary art.

Adducing more than 60 examples, the Kunsthaus Zürich demonstrates the way a burgeoning generation of artists approaches such subjects as changing values and evolving identities: in videos critical of typecasting, in "doppelganger" sculptures addressing the quest for an identity at the personal, psychological level, in installations dealing with political problems such as migration or religious conflict, as well as in drawings, paintings and performance art.

The exhibition combines creations by Swiss proponents with the work of their international colleagues.

Indeed, many of the so-called Swiss artists presented here do not possess Swiss citizenship, while some of the artists shown who do enjoy Swiss nationality actually live and work outside the country.
