Heavyweight Green Awards Judging Panel Announced

Heavyweight Green Awards Judging Panel Announced

September 8, 2008  |  Levent OZLER

Baroness Peta Buscombe, Chief Executive of the Advertising Association, will lead the heavyweight Green Awards judging panel, which includes inventor Trevor Baylis; Chairman of Interbrand, Rita Clifton; and Designer and Campaigner, Katharine Hamnett, as the 2008 judging panel Chair.

Following in the footsteps of the 2007 Chair, Eric Falt, of the influential United Nations Environment Programme, Baroness Buscombe's involvement will challenge the panel to ensure that work not only meets environmental standards, but also sets high standards for advertising, marketing and promotional work.

Baroness Buscombe has had an extensive career in both politics and the private sector. Called to the Bar in 1977, the Baroness has provided legal advice to the textile, dairy, banking and art industries. Since 2006 she has held Directorships including the ASA's Advertising Standards Board of Finance (asbof)/ Broadcast Advertising Standards Board of Finance (basbof) Plc and Committees of Advertising Practice CAP and BCAP.

Explaining her involvement in the Green Awards she says, "Too often environmental language is not accessible. Environmental solutions are essential to this and future generations, and our industry can play a powerful role overcoming communications barriers - it is our specialty. The Green Awards demonstrate the industry's commitment to promoting positive environmental change and it is a great pleasure to chair the judging panel."

Baroness Buscombe has a longstanding interest in environmental and rural concerns. Her business was part of the Member Association of Rural Businesses in Oxfordshire from 1994-2002 during which time she founded the Conservative Network and Conservative Cultural Unit. Since 2001 she has been a member of the All Party Group for Corporate Social Responsibility, since 2006 Non-Executive Director of Three Valleys Water plc and, since 2007, Vice Chair of GLOBE UK (Global Legislators Organisation for a Balanced Environment).

The Advertising Association is the high level policy formulator and lobbying organisation for the advertising industry. As a federation of 30 trade bodies and organisations representing the advertising and promotional marketing industries including advertisers, agencies, media and support services, it is the only body that speaks for all sides of an industry worth over £19 billion in 2007.

The Green Awards take place on the 12th of November at The Brewery in London and will be presented by Radio 2 presenter and campaigner Janey Lee Grace, author of the bestseller Imperfectly Natural Woman - getting life right the natural way.
