Saks Recruits French Illustrator to Set Apart Its Ad Campaign
September 9, 2008 | Levent OZLER
So many fall fashions. So few ways to break through the clutter.
With hundreds of designers and nearly as many stores touting the season's new styles - the 798-page September issue of Vogue is so hefty it could be used as a barbell - getting overlooked is a real danger.
Saks Fifth Avenue came up with a whimsical way to get noticed.
Earlier this year, the upscale retailer hired Dutch artist Piet Paris to illustrate its "Want It!" ad campaign touting notable trends for spring.
Paris looked to iconic New York skyscrapers for inspiration, dressing up images of the Chrysler building (with a tiered evening gown) and the Statue of Liberty (in a fitted suit).
It was such a hit, Saks decided to do it again.
For the fall campaign, officials hired Alexandra Campain-Tissier, a French illustrator known for her stylized watercolors.
