Chao & Eero: Our Nature
September 14, 2008 | Levent OZLER
Chao-Hsien Kuo and Eero Hintsanen are jewellery designers and artists of the new generation who have created their own distinctive style over the past decade. Their works have been recently seen mainly in the international arena, but this autumn Chao-Hsien Kuo and Eero Hintsanen wish to please and surprise viewers also in Finland. The exhibition Chao & Eero - Our Nature seeks to offer a memorable overview of the multifaceted world of jewellery.
Chao's jewellery interprets Finnish life, in particular the relationship between man and nature. The pieces represent growth in nature and the energy of the manifestations of nature via forms and concepts. Eero's works also tell stories about Finland, but they mostly address urban culture, and the relationship of city dwellers with their own rural roots. His approach is often tinged by gallows humour, giving the jewellery a new but ultimately highly Finnish dimension.
Some of Chao-Hsien Kuo's and Eero Hintsanen's works challenge the viewer to consider the ideas and messages hidden in them. The jewellery can also be seen as studies of forms and the simple beauty that stems from them. The creativity of the pieces is based on experiment and working by hand, a process that deepens and develops over the years alongside the traditional skills applied in making jewellery.
