True Colors: Underground Economy's Obama-Biden 08 Short
November 3, 2008 | Levent OZLER
Underground Economy spliced together audio from two of Obama's most inspiring and recognizable speeches-his keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention and his Acceptance Speech in 2008. The Senator's powerful oratory is paired with sweeping camera moves that transition seamlessly from scene to scene. Stylized patriotic imagery of Obama and America at its most beautiful-grandiose canyons, Statue of Liberty, Mount Rushmore, Lincoln Memorial-are rendered in a saturated red, white and blue color palette. The phrase "Yes We Can" and the word "Hope" appear throughout the short, reinforcing the Obama campaign's key messages.
"True Colors" was inspired by the controversial political spot "Daisy Girl" DDB created for Lyndon B. Johnson's 1964 Presidential bid. "True Colors" was realized using imagery created in Adobe Photoshop and animated in Adobe After Effects. Treated archival news footage of Obama is also interspersed within the film. "True Colors" was directed by Lauren Mayer-Beug and Kristopher Anderson and executive produced by Ryan Gibson.
