November 26, 2008 | Levent OZLER
Blue Room, the award-winning creative services agency, welcomes home Art Director Paul Waszak, CEO/Executive Producer Chris Gargani announced today.
Five years ago, Waszak set up his design studio, Red Lynx AVS, inside the offices of Blue Room and, for three years (2003 to 2006) worked as a graphic designer, primarily on Blue Room projects, winning projects with the Blue Room team and earning a number honors for their joint efforts including: a 2007 Gold BDA for Art Direction/Design for the :30 "NFL Measure Up"; a 2007 Gold Promax Award for Adult Program Promotion for the :30 "The Golf Channel On Demand Workshops"; a 2006 Silver BDA for Art Direction/Design for a :30 "ESPN Classic and Guinness"; and a 2006 Silver Telly for Art Direction/Design for "NFL Pro Bowl", among others.
However, in 2006 he left the Blue Room family to join colleagues who were starting a new animation and design studio, Poolside Design (New York, NY). As a Poolside Partner/Creative Director (2006-2007) Waszak concentrated his talents on advertising, broadcast and film projects including the creation of numerous Nickelodeon assignment, graphics for Shrek 3 marketing materials, branding for FUSE, and a pair of promotional music videos designed to get out the vote for Barack Obama.
Now, with a decade of design and animation experience under his belt, Waszak has returned to Blue Room as an Art Director, and, with Art Director Steve Harper, will head the design department that includes Senior Designer Chieh Yen and a team of animators.
Early in his career, Waszak freelanced with the now defunct Velocity Design Group (New York, NY) on a variety of broadcast design projects for HBO, Showtime, Cinemax and The Weather Channel, among others.
"Waszak is one of the most talented, kick-ass designers I've ever come across. We've worked together really well in the past and now, with the experience he's gained over the last few years, he'll be a major asset. We're really glad to have him back," explained Blue Room's Chris Gargani.
On his rejoining the Blue Room team Waszak said, "When Chris approached me I jumped at the chance to work with Blue Room again. I do my best work with these guys and always liked their creative. Here I have the flexibility to explore new design techniques, pitch several thematically different ideas to a client, and try new approaches to tried and tested ideas. Here I can stretch creatively."
Paul Waszak studied Fine Art at Montclair State University (Montclair, NJ) and earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts at the School of Visual Arts (New York, NY) in Computer Art. Waszak, 32, makes his home in Jersey City, NJ. In his free time he continues his exploration of the arts through drawing and collaborations with other artists, surfing and biking, and can play a mean game of Call of Duty 4.
