Graham Packaging Cells Up Its Life Science Bottle Design

February 10, 2009  |  Levent OZLER

A three-year collaboration between Life Technologies, a provider of life science products for laboratories, Graham Packaging and designer Ideo, has resulted in the Gibco bottle for cell culture products.

The bottle will be used by scientists working in sterile conditions under a laminar hood.

Ideo therefore studied the way scientists went about their task before designing the pack, which is easy to use, improves efficiency and reduces errors and contamination of samples, claims the manufacturer.

The container yields significant improvements on the previous design and incorporates an angled neck for easier pipetting and pouring, compact form for improved handling and storage, a wider mouth to reduce the chance of contact with the pipette, and easy-grip lids for one-handed opening.
