2009 Coca-Cola Refreshing Filmmakers Award Winners

2009 Coca-Cola Refreshing Filmmaker's Award Winners

March 27, 2009  |  Levent OZLER

Jerome Sable and Michael Montgomery, graduate students from the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts, have won the 2009 Coca-Cola Refreshing Filmmaker's Award for their dance-themed short film entitled, "Meanwhile..."

Sable and Montgomery will receive $10,000 and their film will be seen later this year on over 21,000 movie screens in theaters that serve Coca-Cola products.

"It's always difficult to choose the winner because we receive so many creative submissions," said Kathleen Ciaramello, Group Vice President Strategic Partnership Marketing, Coca-Cola North America.

"We selected Jerome and Mike's film because they brought together the fun of movie-going and the simple pleasure of enjoying an ice cold Coca-Cola in a very clever way."

From the more than 200 scripts and storyboards submitted, 10 finalists were selected and given $7,500 for production costs to create their short films.

While Sable and Montgomery have independently placed among the top 10 finalists in previous Coca-Cola Refreshing Filmmaker's Award competitions, their decision to team up this year proved to be the winning combination.

The 50-second spot was written and directed by Sable and produced by Montgomery.

"Going to school in Los Angeles gives us great access to the entertainment industry and we knew if we wanted to win this competition we'd need to pull out all the stops," said Sable.
