AGATA Chair from Kokuyo Wins Prestigious German Design Award
April 22, 2009 | Levent OZLER
The new AGATA/D chair from Kokuyo has won the prestigious Universal Design Award 09. The award is judged by a panel of five professional designers and a cross section of 100 end users. Although sponsored by German organisations Universal Design GmbH and iF International Forum Design GmbH, the Award recognises international design excellence and Kokuyo becomes the first Japanese company to be honoured.
The Universal Design Award was established to raise awareness of contemporary design issues to individuals, businesses, researchers and government. The programme is unique in that it invites the public to participate in deciding which products deserve an award. Judging decisions are based on key criteria such as accessibility, flexibility, intuitiveness, safety, affordability and sustainability.
Although it scored highly across the board, the judges were particularly impressed with AGATA's ability to combine exceptional comfort with ease of use. The most remarked upon feature of the chair was the simple yet sophisticated design of the lumbar support control which means the AGATA is adaptable for a wide range of working environments.
